A reproduced account says each appears for about two seconds, but does not name the characters or reveal where they appear. They are separate from the sensory effects Sphere added in 2026.
What are the two Easter eggs?
According to an account reproducing Collider coverage, Dolan said the movie replaced the faces of two very brief characters with his and Zaslav’s. He described the appearances as lasting about two seconds and declined to say where viewers could find them. The account does not identify the characters, either. The reproduced account is the available source for this detail, so the cameos are best described as reported rather than independently verified.

The word “debacle” in the headline is an opinion, not a conclusion established by the available reporting. The cameo report confirms the alleged insertions; it does not demonstrate that audiences broadly considered the experience a failure or that the 2026 effects update sparked a new controversy.

Sphere Entertainment announced on August 31, 2026 that expanded effects would begin September 25. These additions are physical and sensory elements, not the two reported face swaps.

The company described a sequence featuring a tornado, falling apples and Winged Monkeys taking flight. Sphere president and chief operating officer Jennifer Koester said the enhancements would take memorable moments “to the next level” and immerse audiences further in Oz. Sphere’s announcement provides the schedule and its description of the additions.
FOX5 Las Vegas reported on September 25, 2026, the day the effects debuted, that Sphere Entertainment said the experience had sold more than 4 million tickets and generated more than $500 million in ticket sales since its August 28, 2025 debut. These are company-reported milestones relayed by FOX5, not independently audited figures. FOX5’s report dates the figures to September 2026.
How is Sphere’s version different from the 1939 film?
Sphere launched its adaptation on August 28, 2025, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google and Magnopus. The company described an approximately 75-minute presentation with a 160,000-square-foot interior display plane, haptic seats, environmental effects, custom scents and remastered songs with re-recorded orchestrations. Those specifications and descriptions come from Sphere’s launch announcement, rather than an independent assessment of what audiences experience. Read the launch announcement.
The added digital faces are a small piece of content within that adaptation; the 2026 update adds effects to selected story moments. The available sources do not provide a frame-by-frame comparison with the original film, so they do not establish every visual or editorial change made for Sphere.

What should visitors know about tickets and VIP packages?
Sphere’s VIP page lists Good Witch, Bad Witch and The 1939 packages, but the offers are limited to select seats and performances. Inclusions differ by package and may change. For example, the page lists a Glinda’s Magic Wand gift with the Bad Witch offer for shows beginning October 20, and a Winged Monkey hat with The 1939 package for select shows beginning October 20.
