The first official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiered during a Nintendo Direct on November 12, 2025. Nintendo later presented a separate Direct featuring the film’s final trailer on March 9, 2026.
When did the first trailer come out?
Nintendo and Illumination premiered the first official trailer on November 12, 2025, during a Nintendo Direct. The announcement introduced the animated follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie and revealed Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., alongside the returning principal voice cast. Nintendo’s announcement is the primary source for the debut and cast news.
How does the later Nintendo Direct fit in?
The first-trailer debut and the later trailer presentation are different events. Nintendo’s movie page identifies a March 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct featuring the final trailer; it was not the first-trailer premiere. The page also notes that the presentation contains no game information. Nintendo’s movie page records the later Direct.
What is the movie, and who is making it?
Nintendo and Illumination describe the film as an animated follow-up based on the world of Super Mario Bros. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return as directors, Matthew Fogel as screenwriter, and Brian Tyler as composer. Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto are producers, and Universal Pictures is the worldwide distributor. These credits are given in Nintendo’s November 12, 2025 announcement and on Illumination’s official film page.
