Electronic Arts has confirmed a film based on The Sims, with Kate Herron set to direct and co-write alongside Briony Redman. Margot Robbie is not confirmed as a cast member: the announcement connects her to the project through LuckyChap, the production company she is associated with.
Is Margot Robbie in The Sims movie?
There is no confirmed casting announcement for Robbie in EA’s September 17, 2024 announcement. LuckyChap is named as one of the production companies, alongside Vertigo Entertainment and The Sims team; that producer credit does not establish that Robbie will appear on screen. EA’s announcement said the project was still too early to discuss in detail.
Who is making the film?
- Director: Kate Herron.
- Writers: Herron and Briony Redman are co-writing the film.
- Producers: LuckyChap and Vertigo Entertainment will produce with The Sims team.
- Executive producers: Herron and Redman.
- Studio partnership: EA announced the film in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.
EA’s announcement states: “Kate Herron will direct, as well as co-write with Briony Redman.” Herron is also known for directing episodes of Loki, but the confirmed connection to this project is her role as director and co-writer.
What is known about the story, cast, and release date?
The reviewed official sources do not establish the plot, characters, cast, whether the film will be live-action or animated, filming status, or a release date. EA’s January 9, 2026 franchise update discusses the games roadmap but provides no film release date or production milestone. That absence does not mean the film has been cancelled or halted; it means those details have not been established by the official updates cited here.
