The film is Mixtape, a Netflix coming-of-age drama released in 2021—not a new 2026 release. As checked on October 8, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes displayed a 100% Tomatometer from 10 critic reviews, alongside a separate 76% Popcornmeter from 100+ audience ratings. Those figures describe the page at that time and may change.
What is Mixtape about?
Set in 1999, Mixtape follows 12-year-old Beverly, who discovers a broken mixtape made by her late parents. She sets out to identify its songs, hoping to learn more about them. Beverly is being raised by her grandmother Gail, who finds it painful to talk about her late daughter. The search brings Beverly new friends and helps her reconnect with Gail.

The premise brings together bereavement, family memory, music and friendship. Netflix lists Gemma Brooke Allen as Beverly Moody and Julie Bowen as Gail; the cast also includes Audrey Hsieh, Olga Petsa, Nick Thune and Jackson Rathbone. Valerie Weiss directed the film, and Stacey Menear wrote the screenplay, according to Netflix’s 2021 announcement.
Does Mixtape really have a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score?
Yes. On the Rotten Tomatoes film page checked October 8, 2026, the Tomatometer was 100% based on 10 critic reviews. The page separately showed a 76% Popcornmeter from 100+ audience ratings. The scores are not the same measure, and neither number means every critic or viewer responded identically. Rotten Tomatoes can update its score and counts, so treat these as a dated snapshot.

Critic excerpts on the page reflect both the friendship and music at the story’s center. Nell Minow of RogerEbert.com, in a review dated December 3, 2021, wrote: “The film’s] moments of the girls enjoying their friendship have an appealing freshness that almost matches the quality of the bangers on the soundtrack.” Chelsie Derman of The Young Folks, in a review dated December 15, 2021, wrote: “Ultimately, the heartfelt Mixtape isn’t only about remembering the past and taking something from it. It’s about making new friends and memories, too.”
Is Mixtape on Netflix, and how long is it?
Netflix lists Mixtape as a 2021 title. The film’s streaming release date was December 3, 2021, and Rotten Tomatoes lists its runtime as 1 hour 33 minutes. Netflix’s catalog, age classification, audio and subtitle options can vary by country, so check the title page in your own region for current availability and details. Netflix’s Canada title page lists the film and offline-download information; that listing does not establish availability in every territory.

Why does the headline call it “new”?
“New” referred to the film’s release period, not its status today. A December 9, 2021 syndicated listing used that headline and identified Mixtape as the movie, naming Gemma Brooke Allen and Julie Bowen. Netflix’s official title page identifies it as a 2021 film.
