Cartoon Network spokesperson Jean Woo credited Jared’s creation to Haley Mancini and co-executive producer Bob Boyle, with Mancini as the character’s principal story writer. That corrects the central authorship claim, but it does not settle every question about Goldman voicing a character romantically linked to Blossom.
What the rumor claimed
A 4chan thread, later circulated on Tumblr and Twitter, alleged that Powerpuff Girls writer Jake Goldman created Jared Shapiro as a romantic self-insert for Blossom. Jared was described as a nerdy student and theatre buff, and viewers noted that he resembled Goldman and was voiced by him. Those details formed the rumor’s basis; by themselves, they do not establish who created the character.
Who was credited with creating Jared
In a June 1, 2017 report, Gizmodo’s Beth Elderkin said Cartoon Network spokesperson Jean Woo credited Jared’s creation to Haley Mancini and co-executive producer Bob Boyle. Woo identified Mancini as the principal story writer for the character. This is the report’s attributed account of the production credit, rather than a claim based on Jared’s resemblance to or voice actor.
Why Jared resembled Goldman and Goldman voiced him
Former storyboard artist Grace Kraft offered a separate explanation in social posts reported by Gizmodo: artists modeled Jared after Goldman because he fit the character, and thought it would be fitting for Goldman to voice him. Kraft’s explanation concerns the design and casting; it does not change the creation credit Woo gave.

Gizmodo reported that Cartoon Network did not explain why Goldman was brought in to voice Jared. The available account therefore does not establish the network’s casting rationale.
What the correction does not resolve
Correcting the authorship allegation does not make the audience’s discomfort disappear. Jared had romantic ties to Blossom, and the report noted that the May 7 episode “A Star Is Blossom” included a shirtless Jared in one of Blossom’s fantasies. The report rebuts the claim that Goldman created Jared; it does not provide a complete defense of the casting or every creative choice around the character.
