New Orleans tops The Tech Edvocate’s playful list of the 10 best American cities for vampires, followed by Portland and Las Vegas. The ranking is built around impressions of atmosphere—nightlife, weather, crowds, cemeteries, ghost lore, urban scale and Gothic architecture—not a documented test of vampire-friendly conditions.
The Tech Edvocate’s 10-city list
The list below preserves the order published by The Tech Edvocate on March 13, 2024. Its explanations are humorous city impressions; the article does not provide a scoring system, supporting data or a reproducible method for deciding which city ranks above another.

The appeal points are familiar ingredients of vampire fiction and spooky-season travel: nightlife and festivals, overcast or rainy weather, forests and fog, anonymity in a crowd, cemeteries and ghost stories, large-city scale, and Gothic architecture. They are not established habitat criteria, and the list does not show that each factor was measured or applied consistently to every city.
Why another vampire-city ranking has a different order
Lawn Love published a separate, data-led list, “2023’s Best and Worst Cities for Vampires,” updated October 23, 2023. It compared 500 U.S. cities using 17 metrics grouped into five categories: Food and Drink, Lair Safety, Deterrents, Community, and Entertainment. Its measures included blood centers and drives, slaughterhouses, casket suppliers, homes with basements, sunshine, garlic festivals, vampire groups, tours and nightlife.

- Louis' first-person confession to a skeptical boy--transformed the vampire from a hideous predator into a highly sympathetic, seductive, and all-too-human figure
- The story is that of Louis, a wealthy eighteenth century Louisiana plantation owner who became a vampire in the depths of his despair over his brother's suicide
That is a different project from The Tech Edvocate’s list. Lawn Love’s first three were New York, Chicago and Columbus; its top ten also included Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Houston, Portland, Madison, Seattle and Omaha. Only Philadelphia, Portland and Seattle appear in both top tens. The overlap does not make the rankings interchangeable: they use different lists and approaches.
What Lawn Love’s numbers mean
In Lawn Love’s 2023 ranking, New York received an overall score of 64.14, and the article reported 23 blood centers, 9 slaughterhouses and 30 casket suppliers there. It reported that 85.4% of Chicago homes had basements. These are figures reported as inputs or results of that dated ranking, not verified current city conditions and not numbers from The Tech Edvocate’s article.
BroBible’s October 30, 2023 coverage also described Lawn Love’s exercise as unserious, noting the fictional premise behind applying city metrics to vampires. It reported New York, Chicago and Columbus in the top three. For the study’s methodology and its own figures, Lawn Love is the primary source; BroBible is useful as editorial context, not as a replacement for that methodology.

For a ranking with a stated framework, use Lawn Love’s 2023 list and identify it by source and date. Do not combine their city placements or assign Lawn Love’s figures to the other article.
