Chrissy Teigen’s most widely reported controversies include her past posts and alleged private messages to Courtney Stodden, who was a teenager at the time, and separate public exchanges with Donald Trump. The Stodden episode involved allegations of personal harassment and a later apology; the Trump posts were political clashes. No authoritative all-time ranking establishes which tweets were “the most” controversial, so the examples below focus on well-documented episodes.
What did Chrissy Teigen say about Courtney Stodden?
In 2021, Courtney Stodden described public tweets and alleged private messages from Teigen dating to when Stodden was a teenager. Stodden became known after marrying actor Doug Hutchison at age 16 in 2011. The Los Angeles Times reported Stodden’s account that Teigen sent messages including “I can’t wait for you to die” and urged them to take a “dirt nap.” Those descriptions of private messages are Stodden’s claims as reported by the Times, not an independently authenticated archive of the messages.
The episode drew particular attention because Stodden was a teenager at the time and the reported remarks were personal attacks, rather than political banter. A broader Los Angeles Times explainer published in June 2021 covered the controversy and Teigen’s apologies. The Washington Post also placed the resurfacing of old posts in the context of changing expectations around celebrity behavior online and reported that other people had come forward with accounts; those accounts should be understood as claims attributed to the people making them, not as adjudicated findings.
Why did Teigen apologize, and how did Stodden respond?
On May 12, 2021, Teigen posted a public apology thread on Twitter. She described her past self as an “insecure, attention seeking troll” and apologized directly to Stodden, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Stodden said that they accepted the apology and forgave Teigen, but also questioned its sincerity. In an Instagram response quoted by the Times, Stodden wrote, “But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private.” That was Stodden’s account at the time of the apology; it does not establish the status of their relationship or contact today. The apology and Stodden’s mixed response are part of the record, but neither by itself settles the dispute.
What were Teigen’s controversial exchanges with Donald Trump?
The 2017 tweet that preceded Trump blocking her
In July 2017, Teigen tweeted “lol no one likes you” to then-President Donald Trump. TIME reported that Trump blocked her after the post. The magazine also reported that Teigen said her criticism of Trump went back years earlier, at least to 2011. This was a public political exchange, distinct in context and stakes from Stodden’s allegations.

The 2019 exchange over criminal-justice reform
In September 2019, Trump criticized musician John Legend’s advocacy for criminal-justice reform and referred to Teigen as Legend’s “filthy mouthed wife.” Teigen responded publicly: “Tagged everyone but me. An honor, Mister President,” TIME reported. The remark was part of a political back-and-forth, not the same kind of incident as the allegations concerning Stodden.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why these episodes are not a definitive ranking
“Most controversial” is an editorial description, not a verifiable ranking: the reporting cited here does not provide an exhaustive archive or a consistent measure for comparing every Teigen tweet. A tweet’s prominence, its target, the age and relative power of the people involved, and whether a claim concerns a public post or a reported private message all affect how an episode should be understood. The Stodden allegations and the Trump exchanges therefore belong in separate categories rather than being treated as equivalent incidents.

- 5-POSITION ADJUSTABLE FOR EVERY ACTIVITY - This cookbook stand sets 5 angles for comfort and posture — a recipe book holder for thick cookbooks, a book stand for reading, studying, or display. Note: it adjusts the viewing ANGLE, not height; the top edge is fixed, so tilt it to read comfortably.
- HOLDS THICK COOKBOOKS WITH SECURE PAGE CLIPS - Spring-loaded clips keep recipe book pages open, hands-free, up to 1 inch (600 pages). Weighted bamboo base adds stability. For the heaviest 1 inch+ hardcovers, use the shallowest angle so the book rests on the base tray and the clips only guide pages.
- FOLDABLE DESIGN FOR EASY STORAGE & PORTABILITY - Collapses flat for compact storage and travel. This portable book holder fits drawers, bags, and shelves. The weighted bamboo base gives a solid, planted feel (not flimsy) while you flip pages, yet still folds nearly flat to slip into a drawer.
- VERSATILE FOR COOKING, READING, STUDYING & DISPLAY - This bamboo book stand holds cookbooks, textbooks, tablets, and more — a cookbook holder for kitchen counter, desk, or office. Note: it's a HORIZONTAL stand; the 15.3"-wide surface fits standard hardcovers and larger books, but not oversized coffee-table books.
- PREMIUM BAMBOO CONSTRUCTION & ELEGANT DESIGN - Crafted from high-quality bamboo; Walnut finish adds warmth to any space. Size: 15.3" × 10.9" fits most recipe books and textbooks. Colour note: warm, deep walnut-brown — real bamboo grain and tone vary slightly and may read a little deeper than on screen.
