What the controversy is about
The story became a public dispute before the Season 7 reunion, as questions circulated about Tyler’s connection to the children and when Ashley learned about it. “Paternity scandal” is a label used for the controversy, not a settled finding about paternity or the circumstances of the children’s conception.

Netflix’s October 31, 2024 post-reunion recap framed Tyler as having fathered two children via sperm donation. Life & Style reported a different account from Bri Thomas: she disputed the “sperm donor” characterization and said she and Tyler had co-parented the children. The reports conflict on a central point—how Tyler’s role should be described—and do not independently resolve it.

What Ashley and Tyler said after the reunion
Netflix’s October 2024 recap quoted Ashley criticizing the timing of Tyler’s disclosure: “Omission is a lie, so, I truly wish he gave me that opportunity earlier on to make that decision because I felt robbed of not having the full picture.” Tyler said: “I just wish I navigated it a little bit better.”
TV Insider reported a separate response from Tyler on social media: “I don’t owe anyone in the world an explanation. But I’ll give you one lol the conversation was more than what was shown and a lot of off-camera conversations were had.” His response disputes the impression that the conversation shown on the program captured everything discussed.

What was reported about the custody case
On October 8, 2024, Life & Style reported that it had reviewed court records showing a custody case had been reopened, with a disposition hearing scheduled for November 15, 2024. The available reporting here does not establish what happened at that hearing or the case’s current status. It therefore does not support a claim about a final custody, paternity, or support ruling.
