Ars Technica reported on March 22, 2024, that the Sci-Fi World Museum planned to display the bridge in Santa Monica. Is it the original Enterprise-D bridge?
No. The original The Next Generation bridge set was reportedly destroyed during filming of Star Trek: Generations. Set designers Michael Okuda and Herman Zimmerman oversaw the creation of three replicas. The museum’s exhibit was the third replica, not the original filming set. Ars Technica’s report
How the museum replica traveled—and what was restored
The third replica toured internationally as part of Star Trek: World Tour before spending time in a Long Beach warehouse. Some chairs and other components were salvaged from Star Trek: The Experience, the Las Vegas attraction that closed in 2008. The report contrasts the original set’s wood construction with the replica’s metal and fiberglass construction. Restoration was initially expected to take up to two years, but it proved a larger challenge. How it differs from the Picard Season 3 bridge
The bridge rebuilt for Star Trek: Picard Season 3 was a separate production set. It is not the touring replica announced for the Sci-Fi World Museum. Can you visit the exhibit now?
