Mosley and Larry Manetti. Since then, Selleck and Manetti continued acting, while Hillerman and Mosley have died. Here’s what is known about the four principal cast members, along with a few brief notes on recurring performers.
The principal cast of Magnum, P.I.
The Television Academy’s reference to the Museum of Broadcast Communications entry identifies Selleck as Thomas Magnum, Hillerman as Jonathan Higgins, Mosley as Theodore “T.C.” Calvin and Manetti as Rick Wright. It also says the series ranked among the top 20 shows in each of its first five broadcast years; the entry does not give an exact rank or audience figure. Television Academy

Tom Selleck — Thomas Magnum
After the series, Selleck starred as police chief Jesse Stone in television movies from 2004 to 2015. In 2010, he began playing New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. In a May 7, 2024 retrospective, Parade reported that Selleck was completing the show’s fourteenth and final season that spring. That is a dated career milestone, not confirmation of his work after the series ended. Selleck said of Blue Bloods, “I love the show.” Parade
John Hillerman — Jonathan Higgins
Hillerman played the formal, disciplined caretaker of Robin’s Nest, often clashing with Magnum. Parade reported that he retired after filming A Very Brady Sequel in 1999 and died from cardiovascular disease in 2017, aged 84. His performance as Higgins brought him Emmy and Golden Globe recognition. Parade

Roger E. Mosley — Theodore “T.C.” Calvin
Mosley played Magnum’s friend T.C., a helicopter pilot. He died on August 7, 2022, aged 83, after injuries from a car accident in California, according to The Washington Post. He also made a guest appearance in the reboot as a barber to the new T.C. The Washington Post
Recalling his decision to join the original series, Mosley said, “I went ‘for two weeks,’ and the rest is history — eight and a half years.” The Post attributed the recollection to an interview with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. The Washington Post

Larry Manetti — Rick Wright
Manetti played Rick, Magnum’s friend and a nightclub owner. Parade reported that he reprised the role in the reboot in 2019 and appeared alongside Selleck on Blue Bloods in 2023. His official website presents Aloha Magnum as a behind-the-scenes memoir about the series. The site also lists personalized videos and appearances, but does not establish a complete, independently verified schedule for 2026. Parade · Larry Manetti’s official website

The series had a wider circle of recurring performers beyond its four leads. The Television Academy’s cast reference includes Orson Welles as the voice of Robin Masters, Jeff MacKay as Mac Reynolds, Kwan Hi Lim as Lieutenant Tanaka, Jean Bruce Scott as Lieutenant Maggie Poole, Gillian Dobb as Agatha Chumley, Kathleen Lloyd as Assistant District Attorney Carol Baldwin and Elisha Cook Jr. as “Ice Pick.” Television Academy

In its 2024 retrospective, Parade reported that Lloyd retired in 2004 and Lim died in 2008. This is a small selection of supporting-cast updates, not a full account of every performer who appeared in the series. Parade
