Holes is the 2003 film adaptation of Louis Sachar’s novel, directed by Andrew Davis and written for the screen by Sachar himself. Its cast brought together young actors as the boys at Camp Green Lake and established performers in the adults’ roles. The sources available here confirm the film’s central cast and production background, but do not establish a complete, independently verified 2026 update for every actor; the fairest account separates confirmed film credits from later career claims that cannot be dated reliably.
What the film is—and who is in its central cast
In Holes, Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake, where he and the other boys are forced to dig holes. As Stanley wonders why the warden is so interested in what they uncover, the campers begin to piece together the camp’s mystery and look for a way out. Walden Media identifies the movie as an adaptation of Sachar’s bestselling novel and credits him as its screenwriter as well as its author. Walden Media’s film page lists Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight and Patricia Arquette among the stars.

The official cast references highlight several of the adult characters as well as LaBeouf’s Stanley: D23 lists Weaver as the Warden, Voight as Mr. Sir, Tim Blake Nelson as Dr. Pendanski, Henry Winkler as Stanley’s father, Eartha Kitt as Madame Zeroni, Dulé Hill as Sam, and Arquette as Kissin’ Kate Barlow. D23 spells Voight’s name “John Voight” on its page. These short official listings are not a complete roll call of the younger campers. D23’s film entry and the Disney+ listing provide additional official cast references.
The release date is reported differently by two official sources: Walden Media gives April 11, 2003, while D23 gives April 18, 2003. Both place the film’s release in April 2003; the sources do not resolve the one-week discrepancy. D23 also says filming took place primarily at Cuddeback Dry Lake and Red Rock Canyon, in the desert west of Death Valley.

The young Camp Green Lake cast
Shia LaBeouf as Stanley Yelnats
LaBeouf plays Stanley, the boy whose arrival at Camp Green Lake sets the story in motion. Walden Media and Disney+ include him in their central cast listings. The materials available for this retrospective do not provide a directly verified, dated account of his latest work, so no claim about what he is doing in 2026 can be made responsibly here.
The other campers
The official short cast lists do not enumerate the full group of young actors playing Stanley’s fellow campers. A retrospective page surfaced with career highlights for performers including Khleo Thomas, but its contents could not be directly examined. That is not enough to confirm individual later credits or current activity. Sparse or unavailable recent information should not be mistaken for evidence that an actor stopped working.

The adult cast and the film’s supporting roles
Sigourney Weaver as the Warden
Weaver plays the authority figure who runs Camp Green Lake and is central to the boys’ suspicion about the holes. Walden Media and Disney+ list her among the film’s stars. The sources used here do not establish a dated latest-work update for her in relation to this retrospective.
Jon Voight as Mr. Sir
Voight plays the camp staff member identified as Mr. Sir in D23’s cast entry. Walden Media lists Jon Voight among the stars; D23’s page spells the name “John Voight.” Neither source supplies a current career update, and the materials available here do not verify his latest work.
Rank #3
Patricia Arquette as Kissin’ Kate Barlow
Arquette plays the outlaw whose past is woven into the film’s history of Green Lake. She appears in the star listings from Walden Media and Disney+. A retrospective search excerpt mentions career highlights, but without access to the page’s full contents it cannot support a detailed or current chronology.
Tim Blake Nelson, Henry Winkler, Eartha Kitt and Dulé Hill
D23 identifies Nelson as Dr. Pendanski, Winkler as Stanley’s father, Kitt as Madame Zeroni, and Hill as Sam. These roles connect the camp’s present-day events to the family and local histories at the heart of the story. The verified film references establish their parts, but do not provide a dated latest-work update for each performer. Kitt’s inclusion here is as a cast member in the 2003 film; this account does not imply current activity.

What can—and cannot—be said about the cast today
A “where are they now?” answer is only useful when it distinguishes a verified later credit from a guess about someone’s present circumstances. The available sources establish the film’s identity, central roles, and some production details, but not a complete current career timeline for the ensemble. In particular, a search-result excerpt is not a substitute for examining the full underlying article, and an official film cast page is not a current biography. Accordingly, this retrospective does not label performers active, retired, or absent from public life without dated evidence.
For the story behind the movie, the most direct companion is Sachar’s novel, which Walden Media identifies as the source text. The film page does not establish a particular current print edition or its availability.
