The report described alleged tension on set, but it did not identify the source or establish that the account was corroborated. It should be treated as an allegation, not a proven account of Deschanel’s conduct.
Where the “horrible boss” claim came from
RadarOnline published the report on December 3, 2013, while Deschanel was starring in and producing the third season of New Girl. Its headline signaled that the story rested on an insider’s claims. The article attributed its account to an unnamed person connected to the production, without identifying that person or naming corroborating witnesses. Read the RadarOnline report.

That is the evidentiary basis available for the reputation claim—not a documented finding, a named crew member’s account, or evidence that cast and crew broadly shared the view.
What the anonymous source alleged
The source characterized Deschanel as controlling and moody, and alleged that she introduced rules that upset cast and crew. The source also claimed she objected when production schedules ran behind and preferred shooting days to end with scenes featuring only her and one other actor. These details remain the account of one unidentified source; the report does not establish how many people, if any, independently supported it.

RadarOnline also named Liz Meriwether and Katherine Pope as people with authority on New Girl. Their roles in the production do not corroborate the anonymous source’s allegations, and the report’s mention of them is not evidence that either endorsed the account.
Does later coverage independently confirm the story?
An Alot celebrity roundup later repeated the “rules the roost” characterization and added claims about filming disruptions and absences. In the passage available, it did not identify a distinct firsthand source for those additions. Repeating a claim without showing independent sourcing does not verify it. See the Alot roundup.

A GQ interview concerning Horrible Bosses actors Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day is unrelated to Deschanel’s reputation and offers no evidence about her conduct. Read the GQ interview.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Supported: A 2013 RadarOnline story attributed claims about Deschanel’s behavior on the New Girl set to an unnamed production insider.
- Not established by that story: That the source was reliable, that other cast or crew members agreed, or that the allegations represented Deschanel’s general reputation.
- Not independently demonstrated by the later roundup: The additional claims about filming disruptions and absences.
The careful description is therefore that an anonymous source alleged Deschanel could be difficult on set. Calling her a “horrible boss” or saying she was “not nearly as nice as she appears” turns that limited, uncorroborated account into a factual judgment the available reporting does not support.
