Ben Shapiro’s sister is Abigail Shapiro, an opera singer who was targeted by antisemitic and misogynistic online abuse in 2017 after users linked her to her brother. Separate viral posts later attributed to Ben Shapiro—one in 2022 and another in 2024—were fabricated. Those episodes are documented; they should not be confused with criticism of Abigail Shapiro’s political views or treated as a complete account of every controversy associated with her.
Who is Ben Shapiro’s sister?
Abigail Shapiro is Ben Shapiro’s sister. Contemporaneous coverage in 2017 described her as a 24-year-old opera singer. In an opinion article for The Forward, Bethany Mandel reported on the abuse Abigail received and quoted her explaining why she chose to speak publicly: “I’d rather it not be something I deal with privately.”
What happened to Abigail Shapiro in 2017?
In October 2017, Abigail faced antisemitic and misogynistic messages after online users connected her to her brother. Mandel’s account in The Forward described abusive messages across YouTube and Abigail’s website. The publication’s accompanying report also described emails and a 4chan thread.
The Forward reported that Abigail disabled comments on her professional YouTube channel and restricted her social profiles. Mandel quoted Ben Shapiro saying, “My sister doesn’t deserve this.” The article also quoted ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt condemning the attacks as an attempt to intimidate Jewish journalists and their families. The opinion article’s analysis and quotations are attributable to Mandel’s reporting; they should not be mistaken for a comprehensive investigation of every online interaction.

Were the later posts attributed to Ben Shapiro real?
No. Two later viral claims involving sexualized remarks about Abigail were debunked. They are separate from the documented 2017 harassment.
The 2022 screenshot
In February 2022, a screenshot purporting to show Ben Shapiro praising his sister’s appearance circulated online. Truth or Fiction concluded the supposed tweet was not authentic and reported that the images were edited versions of photographs from Abigail Shapiro’s Instagram post.
The 2024 Sydney Sweeney comparison
In April 2024, a post attributed to Ben Shapiro compared Abigail with actor Sydney Sweeney. PolitiFact found the post was fabricated. A Daily Wire spokesperson told PolitiFact that Shapiro had not made the statement and said, “The photo is obviously doctored.” PolitiFact rated the claim “Pants on Fire!”

The substantiated episodes covered here are the 2017 online abuse and the later fabricated posts. They are not evidence that every claim circulating about Abigail Shapiro is true, and they should not be conflated with disagreement over her political views. The available accounts also do not establish her current social-media settings or provide a complete inventory of controversies associated with her.
