The American remake of the French spy series Le Bureau des Légendes, known internationally as The Bureau, is called The Agency. It shifts the story from France’s foreign-intelligence service to a CIA station in London, with Michael Fassbender playing agent Martian.
What is The Bureau remake called?
The U.S. adaptation is The Agency. Paramount describes it as a fresh take on the French drama, while CANNESERIES identifies it as a remake. The English-language series carries over the premise of clandestine agents living under cover, but moves the story from France’s DGSE to the CIA’s London Station.
Paramount Australia’s November 2024 launch announcement and the CANNESERIES programme entry establish that relationship between the two series.
What is The Agency based on?
It is adapted from Le Bureau des Légendes, a French CANAL+ original created by Éric Rochant and also distributed internationally under the title The Bureau. The original follows agents in the DGSE’s Bureau of Legends, a unit that trains and directs clandestine operatives to live abroad under fabricated identities and recruit intelligence sources.

The Originals Group lists the French series as five seasons of ten episodes, each 52 minutes long. Federation Studios’ 2025 catalogue gives a format of 76 episodes at 52 minutes; that is a catalogue format listing, not a separate season-and-episode breakdown.
How does the American version change the setting and story?
The Agency centers on CIA agent Martian, who returns to London Station after working undercover. The return brings him into contact with a former love, entangling his personal life with his identity, his career, and his mission. Paramount’s current synopsis also describes Martian trying to save Samia, a political prisoner in Sudan; that detail is part of the series’ promotional premise.
The clearest comparison is institutional and geographic: the original is about France’s DGSE and clandestine work abroad, while the remake follows a CIA operative at London Station. The original is French-language; The Agency is English-language. The available official descriptions establish this broad shift, but do not provide a basis for judging how closely the remake follows individual plots, or whether either version is more realistic or better.
