The video that circulated online in March 2025 used footage from The CW’s unaired live-action Powerpuff pilot, but it was not an official trailer. TheWrap described it as an apparent fan-made scene compilation, and The A.V. Club also reported that the footage came from the pilot while confirming the trailer was not real.
Was the Powerpuff Girls trailer real?
No. The circulating video showed scenes from the filmed pilot, but reporting did not identify it as a trailer made or released by The CW. TheWrap described the video as an apparent fan-made collection of scenes; The A.V. Club independently confirmed the footage came from the pilot and said the trailer was not real. Neither report establishes who assembled the video.
TheWrap’s account of the clips mentions Bubbles burping while drunk and Buttercup rejecting her green dress as “normative and ass-ugly.” Those are reported moments from the pilot footage, not evidence of a completed episode or an official network preview.
What was The CW’s Powerpuff project?
Developed under the title Powerpuff, the project was a live-action adaptation of Cartoon Network’s franchise, ordered by The CW in 2020. It reimagined Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as adults: after Townsville turns against the crime-fighting trio, they break up, then face the prospect of reuniting when darkness returns.

Why didn’t the pilot become a series?
The 2021 pilot was sent back for reworking
The CW did not place the pilot on its 2021–22 schedule and said it would rework the project. In a May 25, 2021 interview, then-network chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said, “In this case, the pilot didn’t work.” He also said the tone might have felt “a little too campy” and not as rooted in reality as it could have been. TVLine reported Pedowitz’s comments.

The project was dropped in 2023
Powerpuff remained in development after the pilot was reworked, but TheWrap reported that it was axed in 2023 following Nexstar’s acquisition of The CW, with the rights returning to Warner Bros. A July 2023 retrospective from ComicBook.com likewise said Warner Bros. TV no longer had the project in development. The 2025 video did not cause the cancellation: the pilot had already been sent back for changes in 2021, years before the footage circulated.

The reports establish that the circulating clips came from the pilot, but they do not identify a stable, authorized place to watch them.
