In Season 3’s “Herogasm,” Starlight and Hughie have an emotionally charged argument while naked. Erin Moriarty and Jack Quaid’s comments, as reported by Animated Times, describe a scene driven less by the unusual filming circumstances than by the relationship conflict between their characters.
What happens in the “Herogasm” scene?
The scene takes place during the climax of “Herogasm,” a Season 3 episode of The Boys. Annie January, also known as Starlight, and Hughie Campbell argue about tensions in their relationship, including Hughie’s discomfort with Annie’s strength and his use of Compound V. Despite the episode’s heightened superhero setting, the disagreement is presented as a relationship conflict—not a separate physical fight.

What did Jack Quaid say about filming it?
Quaid, as quoted by Animated Times, said the scene became emotionally absorbing and praised Moriarty as a scene partner: “Thankfully, Erin is such a great scene partner and I feel like that’s such a pivotal scene in our arcs in the season.”
He also described getting caught up in the emotion: “It was good to get lost in the emotion of it, because… that ultimately ended up winning out over how many clothes we had on.” The report says Quaid called filming the scene a “breeze” because he trusted Moriarty. It also says the scene was filmed after much of “Herogasm,” by which point the actors were accustomed to the episode’s nudity-heavy production context. Animated Times’ June 27, 2022 report attributes these comments to Quaid and says they were revealed by Variety.

How did Erin Moriarty describe the relationship conflict?
Moriarty’s reported perspective was that the couple’s problems remain recognizable even in the show’s exaggerated world. As quoted by Animated Times, she said: “I think that they exemplify that being in a romantic relationship is hard no matter what.”
That framing keeps the scene’s focus on Annie and Hughie’s disagreement. Their nudity is a conspicuous circumstance of the scene, while the emotional conflict gives it its weight.
