Sam Mendes’ announced Beatles project is four interconnected theatrical feature films, not one biopic. Each film follows the story from a different Beatle’s perspective, with all four stories intersecting. The latest official updates schedule full theatrical windows for April 2028; individual film dates and detailed plots have not been announced.
Are there four Beatles biopic movies?
Yes. Sony Pictures announced four feature films conceived as one connected cinematic event. Sam Mendes is directing all four, and each tells part of the shared Beatles story from one member’s point of view. The films are not competing adaptations or four installments in a conventional, sequential series. Sony’s announcement described the project as the first time the band and Apple Corps granted full life-story and music rights for a scripted film project; that claim applies to this project as announced, not to every Beatles film made in the past.

These are the announced lead roles. Sony’s February 2024 announcement named Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne as screenwriters. Sony Pictures’ project announcement says the production is by Neal Street in association with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures, which is financing and distributing it worldwide.
Who else is in the announced cast?
Official announcements have named actors for several people connected to the Beatles. The list is not confirmed as complete: the December 2025 announcement said additional character casting would follow, and the February 2026 update added roles. When do the Beatles films come out?
The latest official updates put the films’ full theatrical windows in April 2028. Sony’s original February 20, 2024 announcement had set a worldwide theatrical window in 2027, so the current announced window is later than the initial target. Sony’s 2024 release announcement, followed by The Beatles’ December 2025 update and Neal Street’s February 2026 update, documents the change.
The announcements give no exact date for each film and no territory-by-territory schedule. The April 2028 window is therefore the latest announced timing for the theatrical event, not a set of confirmed local premiere dates.

What are the films about?
The confirmed premise is one Beatles story told through four intersecting perspectives, with one film centered on each band member. Official announcements have not disclosed individual film titles, complete synopses or detailed timelines. The announced cast alone does not establish which events or eras will appear in each film, so those details remain unknown.
Sam Mendes said, “I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.” Producer Pippa Harris described the plan as “four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time,” and Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones said the company was delighted “to explore each Beatle’s unique story and to bring them together in a suitably captivating and innovative way.” The statements accompanied Sony’s project announcement.

How are the films different from The Beatles Anthology?
The Mendes project is a scripted theatrical film event; The Beatles Anthology is separate documentary and archival material. Disney describes the restored and expanded documentary as a nine-episode series, with a streaming premiere listed for November 26, 2025. Availability may vary by territory. Disney’s project profile covers that documentary, not the four films.
The Anthology book and music are separate as well. The Associated Press reported a 25th-anniversary edition of the book about the band’s journey and an Anthology 4 album with 13 previously unreleased demos, session recordings and rare recordings. They offer related Beatles history and listening, but neither is a film tie-in or soundtrack. The Associated Press report describes those releases.
