Paul McCartney has been linked to at least two notable classic cars: a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and a 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2. The available records offer a glimpse of those cars, not a complete inventory—and they do not establish what he owns today or whether his current collection is “massive.”
Which cars are historically associated with Paul McCartney?
Auction-related accounts connect McCartney with an Aston Martin DB5 and a Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2. The evidence is not identical: the DB5 details come from reporting that reproduces sale material, while RM Sotheby’s explicitly describes the Lamborghini’s McCartney connection as believed rather than certain.
| Car | Record and provenance wording | Notable reported details |
|---|---|---|
| 1964 Aston Martin DB5 | A 2017 report reproducing Bonhams sale material says the car was registered in McCartney’s name. These details are attributed to that sale reporting. McCartney Times report | Sierra Blue paint, black interior, ZF five-speed gearbox and Philips Auto-Mignon record player. |
| 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 by Touring | RM Sotheby’s identifies chassis 01141 and says it was “believed to have been owned by Sir Paul McCartney.” RM Sotheby’s 2018 listing | Reportedly delivered in February 1968 and registered SLF 406F, according to the listing. |
The 1964 Aston Martin DB5
The sale reporting says the DB5 left Aston Martin’s Newport Pagnell factory on July 3, 1964, and was delivered to McCartney’s accountants. It says the car had been ordered before McCartney departed for the Beatles’ summer 1964 world tour and was registered in his name. The report describes it as believed to be his first Aston Martin. These are the sale report’s provenance claims, rather than details independently established here.
A distinctive specification
The same account describes the car in its original Sierra Blue paint with a black interior, a ZF five-speed gearbox and a Philips Auto-Mignon record player. That in-car record player is a particularly apt detail for a musician’s car, but it should be understood as part of the reported specification, not as proof of a broader collection.

The 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2
RM Sotheby’s 2018 listing concerns a 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 by Touring, chassis 01141. It says the car was believed to have belonged to McCartney and notes that the ownership story is mentioned in three modern Lamborghini books: Andrew Moreland’s Lamborghini Supreme Amongst Exotics, Chris Harvey’s Lamborghini and David Hodges’s Lamborghini: The Legend. The listing’s phrasing matters: this is a reported connection, not an unqualified confirmation.
The auction listing says the car was reportedly delivered in February 1968 and registered SLF 406F. It also recounts a later history: after leaving McCartney’s ownership, the Lamborghini remained in the UK, was acquired by another owner in 1979 and was bought by its then-described custodian in 2011 before being shipped to Hong Kong. “Current custodian” refers to the listing’s 2018 wording; it does not establish the car’s location or ownership in 2026.

A correction to the Beatles Anthology claim
RM Sotheby’s listing includes an addendum correcting the printed catalog’s suggestion that this Lamborghini appeared in footage attributed to The Beatles Anthology. The auction house says further research found that it did not appear in that footage. The claim should therefore not be repeated as a fact about the car.
What McCartney said about luxury cars
In a 1984 Playboy interview, McCartney reflected on extravagant cars and chauffeur-driven luxury: “We can be really flash and have a Rolls-Royce for each finger, but I just don’t get anything off that!” The same passage says he disliked chauffeurs and described giving up that lifestyle. It is a historical comment from that interview, not a statement about his present-day preferences. 1984 interview transcript

What these records do—and do not—tell us
Together, the two cars make for a compelling snapshot of vehicles historically associated with McCartney: a DB5 with a reported musical touch and a Lamborghini whose provenance remains qualified by the auction listing. They do not amount to a verified inventory. The available sources establish neither the size of his present collection nor his current ownership of either car.
