Primitive War had a video-on-demand release date of October 3, 2025, in the United States and Canada, where the film was announced as available to rent or buy on major digital platforms. That date has passed; availability now depends on the service and your region.
When did Primitive War come out digitally?
Samuel Goldwyn Films lists October 3, 2025, as the film’s VOD release date. In a release announcement published September 30, 2025, production company Sparke Films specified the United States and Canada and said the movie would be available to rent or buy on major digital platforms. Those statements describe the launch, not a guarantee that every service still carries it today. Samuel Goldwyn Films’ film page and the Sparke Films announcement are the primary release sources.
The film opened in theaters on August 22, 2025, according to its distributor. The October VOD date followed that theatrical release.
Where can you watch it now?
Check digital storefronts available in your country and search for Primitive War. The announcement said “Available on all major digital platforms to rent and buy,” but did not provide a current platform-by-platform list or prices. Availability can change by country and over time, so confirm the title and rental or purchase option in the storefront before paying.

The available evidence does not establish that the film is included with a streaming subscription, identify a current price, or confirm a physical disc release. A distributor listing mentions Apple TV and Prime Video, but does not establish current availability in a particular territory.
What is Primitive War about?
Set during the Vietnam War in 1968, the film follows a reconnaissance unit searching an isolated jungle valley for a missing Green Beret platoon. Samuel Goldwyn Films summarizes the premise: “A recon unit known as Vulture Squad is sent to an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. They soon discover they are not alone.”
Rank #2
Luke Sparke wrote and directed the 132-minute film, which is based on Ethan Pettus’s novel The Primitive War. The distributor lists Ryan Kwanten, Tricia Helfer, Nick Wechsler, and Jeremy Piven among the cast. It lists the language as English and the rating status as “Not Rated Yet”; rating and storefront metadata may change.
Is it really a Jurassic Park replacement?
“Perfect Jurassic Park replacement” is a promotional comparison, not an official genre label or an objective assessment. The confirmed point of connection is the dinosaur-adventure premise; the film’s distributor frames its story around a Vietnam-era military reconnaissance mission. Whether it scratches the same itch is a matter of taste, not a release fact.
