Is The Mummy 4 officially confirmed?
Yes. In a 2025 Associated Press interview, Fraser said, “The one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call.” Universal later formally announced the film and the return of its two lead actors. What is the plot, and where does it fit in the franchise?
Universal has not released a plot synopsis in the cited announcement coverage. A subtitle, setting, villain, rating, runtime and explanation of how the new story follows the 2008 film have not been established there. Fraser has described his preferred approach as, “The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary,” but that comment is not a plot description. Variety reported Fraser’s remarks.
The new film reunites the leads from the original Fraser-led run: The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). Weisz appeared in the first two, but not the third. This makes her return a notable reunion, without establishing exactly how the next film will handle continuity.

This is distinct from the 2017 The Mummy starring Tom Cruise, a separate reboot, and from Lee Cronin’s separately titled Mummy film. The announced project is the next installment associated with Fraser’s Rick O’Connell films. Variety’s coverage distinguishes the returning cast and franchise project.
