Elvis Presley’s Lisa Marie was a 1958 Convair 880, a narrowbody jetliner he purchased in April 1975 and named for his daughter. Graceland says he spent more than $800,000 remodeling it into a customized aircraft with living and meeting spaces. It is distinct from his smaller Lockheed Jet Star, Hound Dog II.
What kind of plane was the Lisa Marie?
Graceland identifies the Lisa Marie as a 1958 Convair 880. Presley bought it in April 1975 and named it after his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. Graceland’s official aircraft page states: “Elvis purchased a 1958 Convair 880 in April 1975 and named it Lisa Marie after his daughter.” Graceland’s aircraft page gives this account.
The Convair 880 was a narrowbody jetliner; Presley’s customization made the cabin serve as a private, mobile retreat as well as a place to meet. Graceland reports that the remodeling cost more than $800,000. That figure is the museum’s reported historical amount, not an independently audited cost.

The features and remodeling figure are reported in Graceland’s account of Elvis’s airplanes. They convey the cabin’s customized character, but do not amount to a complete technical specification or flight history.
How was the Lisa Marie different from Hound Dog II?
Elvis’s other displayed aircraft, Hound Dog II, was a smaller Lockheed Jet Star. Graceland says it was primarily used to transport Elvis’s manager and staff from city to city during concert tours. Its yellow-and-green interior also contrasted with the Lisa Marie’s customized living and meeting spaces.
