No: Hunter Schafer was only the subject of an unconfirmed casting rumor. Nintendo later announced Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The film is now titled The Legend of Zelda and is planned for worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027.
Was Hunter Schafer cast as Princess Zelda?
No. A May 30, 2025 report by Nintendo Life attributed the idea to entertainment insider Daniel Richtman and explicitly noted that Nintendo and the other parties had not announced casting. Schafer’s reported earlier comment that playing Zelda would be cool was an expression of interest, not evidence she received an offer or entered negotiations.
Nintendo’s July 16, 2025 announcement made the casting official: Bo Bragason will play Zelda. That announcement replaced the rumor with a confirmed choice; Schafer and Bragason should not be described as competing candidates.
Who is playing Zelda and Link?
| Role | Officially announced actor | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Princess Zelda | Bo Bragason | Announced by Nintendo on July 16, 2025 |
| Link | Benjamin Evan Ainsworth | Announced by Nintendo on July 16, 2025 |
In the casting announcement, reproduced by Nintendo Life, producer Shigeru Miyamoto said he was “very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
