Why Elle and Noah break up
The summer before college, Elle is caught between two plans: moving across the country with her boyfriend Noah or honoring her long-standing agreement to attend college with her best friend, Lee. Noah ends the relationship because he believes he is holding Elle back from going to Berkeley with Lee.

Elle ultimately makes a choice based on her own interests. She is accepted into a video game design program at USC, setting her on a path toward becoming a game designer rather than choosing college to preserve either relationship.
What happens in the final scene?
After a six-year time jump, Elle is working for a small video-game company. Noah is weighing law-firm offers in New York and Los Angeles. They meet again at their former high school’s carnival and talk about taking a ride together. Noah says, “When I’m in town again, we should go for a ride together. I’ll call you, OK?” Elle replies, “Sure, yeah, if you’ve got time.” Noah answers, “I’ve got time.”

The closing image shows them riding bikes down the road and reaching toward each other. It suggests affection and the possibility of a renewed romance, but it does not show them reuniting as a couple or establish what happens after the ride.
Do Elle and Noah get back together?
The ending supports two readings: the reunion may be the start of a second chance, or it may simply show that affection remains between them. What the film makes clear is that they reconnect and ride together; a future relationship is implied, not confirmed.

Joey King, discussing whether Elle ends up with Noah, said she did not want to impose her own view so viewers could “paint their own picture.” She also said she did not think the characters would lose their feelings for each other. Jacob Elordi called the ending “less ambiguous,” suggesting viewers can imagine where the pair might go next. Those are the actors’ interpretations; neither statement confirms that Elle and Noah are together.
What Elle’s ending means
Elle’s resolution is not just a choice between Noah and Lee. She steps away from the pressure to organize her future around either relationship and pursues video game design. The film closes with the possibility of romance still present, while leaving Elle’s independent direction intact.
