What “hottest” means on this list
JustWatch says its charts use user activity over the last 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Its stated inputs include clicking a streaming offer, adding a title to a watchlist, and marking a title as seen. The company says its charts update daily across 140 countries and 4,500 streaming services, and that activity is collected from more than 50 million movie and TV fans per month. These are JustWatch’s own descriptions of its coverage and methodology, not independently audited audience figures for these shows.

That distinction matters: an activity-based discovery chart can show which titles people are engaging with on JustWatch, but it does not establish how many hours viewers watched. The October 8 list should therefore be described as popular on JustWatch’s U.S. chart on that date, not as America’s most-watched shows.
Why these shows may be getting attention
Release timing offers context, but does not prove why a show ranked where it did. Tom’s Guide’s October 2026 calendar listed East of Eden as debuting on Netflix October 1 and the Ted Lasso season 4 finale on Apple TV October 7. Those dates preceded the chart snapshot; they do not independently explain or verify the chart positions.

Other releases around the same date included Carrie on Prime Video on October 7, and Below on Netflix and The Kardashians on Hulu on October 8, according to the same calendar. A release calendar is useful for planning what to watch, but it is not a popularity ranking.

Nielsen publishes a separate U.S. streaming Top 10 using its streaming measurement products. Its coverage includes Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, and Starz. Nielsen announced accelerated reporting and said it expected its first accelerated Top 10 on September 17, 2026, for the August 31–September 6 measurement period. The reviewed Nielsen pages do not provide an October 8 same-day viewing-hour ranking that confirms these JustWatch leaders.

FlixPatrol also publishes worldwide video-on-demand charts and a release calendar. Its October 8 calendar listed Below on Netflix and The Kardashians on Hulu, but a release calendar is not equivalent to a U.S. popularity ranking. When comparing charts, look at the geography, snapshot date, measurement window, and whether the metric tracks discovery activity or measured viewing.
