Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Guy Beahm, was permanently banned from Twitch in 2020, but Twitch did not publicly explain why at the time. In June 2024, former Twitch personnel alleged that the ban was connected to messages with a minor. Beahm then acknowledged exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch Whispers in 2017, describing them as inappropriate. The fallout included his separation from game studio Midnight Society, a temporary YouTube monetization suspension, and a later streaming agreement with Rumble.

What were the allegations, and what did Beahm acknowledge?

On June 21, 2024, former Twitch account director Cody Conners publicly alleged that Beahm’s 2020 Twitch ban involved messages with a minor. Other former Twitch personnel also publicly connected the ban to messages with a minor. These were accounts by former employees, not a public finding by a court.

On June 25, Beahm acknowledged that he had exchanged messages with a minor through Twitch Whispers in 2017. PC Gamer reported his description of the messages as having “leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.” The reports cited here do not reproduce the underlying messages, so their full content cannot be independently assessed from those accounts.

Beahm also described the Twitch dispute as settled, saying, “this was settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged and they paid out the contract.” That is his account of the settlement. A settlement does not, on its own, establish what happened in the underlying interaction.

What did the platform and company decisions mean?

Twitch’s ban

Twitch’s permanent ban came in 2020, four years before former employees publicly described the alleged connection to messages with a minor. The later accounts and Beahm’s acknowledgment help explain why the ban became a public controversy, but they do not turn the platform decision into a legal judgment. The sources cited here do not establish Beahm’s current Twitch account status.

Midnight Society’s separation and closure

Midnight Society announced its separation from Beahm after its investigation and conversations with people involved. That announcement records the studio’s decision; it is not itself proof of a criminal finding. The studio later reported layoffs and then closed, ending DEADROP development. The available reporting does not establish that Beahm’s departure alone caused either the layoffs or the closure.

YouTube’s monetization decision

YouTube suspended Beahm from its Partner Program after the allegations became public, then restored monetization in January 2025 following a review of his recent channel activity, Forbes reported. Those are separate platform decisions, not a ruling on the underlying allegations.

Rumble’s agreement

Rumble’s November 2024 announcement described a new business relationship: streaming, exclusive Rumble Premium content, and an advisory role in Rumble Gaming. Its announcement also said equity tied to milestones would make up a majority of Beahm’s compensation. The agreement is distinct from Twitch’s ban and the other companies’ decisions.

What is established—and what is not

  • Established: Twitch permanently banned Beahm in 2020; former Twitch personnel publicly alleged a connection to messages with a minor in June 2024; and Beahm acknowledged exchanging messages with a minor on Twitch Whispers in 2017.
  • Not established by these accounts: the full contents of the messages, a court finding about the interaction, or a criminal conviction.
  • Separately reported: Beahm said the Twitch dispute was settled with no wrongdoing acknowledged and that Twitch paid out his contract. That statement describes his position, not a judicial resolution of the facts.
  • Not established about the business fallout: that Beahm’s departure alone caused Midnight Society’s layoffs or closure, or that every sponsor took a particular action. The reporting cited here does not provide an exhaustive account of sponsor responses.
