The new The Big Bang Theory spinoff is officially titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Kevin Sussman returns as Stuart Bloom, the central character in a science-fiction comedy about a multiverse crisis. The series premiered in July 2026, according to post-premiere reporting.
What is the new Big Bang Theory spinoff called?
Warner Bros. Discovery announced the title as Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The name makes Stuart Bloom—the comic-book-store owner played by Kevin Sussman—the focus of the story, rather than Sheldon, Leonard, or the original ensemble. Warner Bros. Discovery’s series announcement describes the project as a comedy built around science-fiction mythology.

Is Stuart the lead, and who is returning?
Yes. Sussman returns as Stuart, who is identified as the story’s central character. The announced returning cast also includes Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Stuart’s girlfriend; Brian Posehn as Bert, his geologist friend; and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke, the quantum physicist who joins their effort.
That core announcement is not a promise that every original cast member will return. A later episode report identifies Kunal Nayyar appearing as Raj, but an episode appearance does not establish him as a regular. The full guest cast and any additional appearances are not established by the cited announcements.

What is Stuart Fails to Save the Universe about?
The disaster begins when Stuart breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard. The mistake triggers a multiverse crisis, and Stuart, Denise, Bert, and Barry try to restore reality. Their effort brings them face to face with alternate-universe versions of familiar characters. Warner Bros. Discovery’s synopsis sums up the likely problem with the rescue in its closing line: “As the title implies, things don’t go well.”
The premise gives this spinoff a science-fiction and multiverse framework while retaining comedy. It shifts attention to Stuart and his companions; the original sitcom centered on a group of Pasadena scientists. The announcement does not establish a particular camera format or other production distinction.
