“6:00 PM,” the twelfth episode of The Pitt Season 2, puts Dana’s defense of trainee Emma at the center of a tense shift change. Dana’s intervention leads to a clash with Robby over her methods and his planned sabbatical, while the emergency department’s other cases keep moving toward the night shift. Spoilers begin below.

Episode details and spoiler-free setup

“6:00 PM” is Season 2, Episode 12 of HBO’s Pittsburgh hospital drama The Pitt. Apple TV lists the episode under that title and gives its U.S. date as March 26, 2026; its listing gives a 49-minute runtime, while Prime Video lists 51 minutes, so runtime depends on the service listing. Apple TV’s episode listing and Prime Video’s Season 2 listing describe Dana stepping up for Emma before clashing with Robby over her approach and his upcoming sabbatical.

The episode is part of a 15-episode second season. HBO Max announced weekly releases beginning January 8, 2026, and running through the April 16 finale. HBO Max’s season announcement gives that schedule.

Spoilers: what happens in “6:00 PM”?

Dana steps in for Emma

Dana intervenes when Emma is attacked. TV Insider’s episode coverage reports the intervention, while the official platform synopsis frames Dana’s actions as defending her trainee. The aftermath becomes the episode’s central personal conflict: Dana and Robby disagree over how she handled the situation, turning a protective act into a difficult conversation about authority, judgment, and responsibility on the floor. TV Insider’s recap and cast discussion covers the attack and the episode’s response to it.

The argument reaches beyond one incident

Dana and Robby’s disagreement is also charged by Robby’s planned sabbatical. The platform synopsis identifies both his leave and their clash, making the conflict more than a dispute over a single intervention: the approaching handoff raises questions about who will be present, how decisions are made, and what Dana is being asked to carry. The available episode descriptions establish that tension, but do not support a detailed reconstruction of every exchange or its exact sequence.

Other cases keep the shift moving

The hour does not stop at the Dana–Robby story. Mohan and King help an elderly couple; Whitaker handles a case arriving from a shuttered rural hospital; and another patient is injured by July 4 fireworks. TV Insider also reports that Orlando, a patient of Mohan’s, returns after leaving the hospital against medical advice. These threads preserve the show’s ensemble structure even as Dana’s confrontation supplies the emotional center.

Review: a handoff-hour shaped by Dana

The most persuasive way to read “6:00 PM” is as a character-driven handoff episode. Its parallel patient stories keep the department busy, but Dana’s response to Emma’s attack gives the hour its clearest dramatic line: an act of protection prompts a confrontation with the person whose judgment and looming absence matter to her work. That structure lets the personal stakes sit inside the practical pressure of an emergency department approaching a new shift.

Tell-Tale TV critic Adam Patla singles out Katherine LaNasa’s performance as Dana, interpreting her composed exterior as giving way to more complicated emotion. That is one critic’s reading, not a claim of universal consensus. It is nevertheless a useful lens for the episode: Dana’s authority and emotional exposure are not separate tracks, and the clash with Robby makes the strain between them visible. Patla’s review develops that assessment.

The episode’s shift-change framing also gives the ensemble cases a functional role. They widen the hour beyond the central conflict and keep the hospital’s work in view, while the returning Orlando story connects a current patient crisis to a prior decision to leave care. The result, based on the documented plot points, is less a standalone medical puzzle than an hour about how staff absorb conflict and responsibility as one shift gives way to another.

How critics and viewers are responding

Rotten Tomatoes listed the episode at 100% from seven critic reviews when its page was accessed on October 8, 2026. That is a dated snapshot, not a permanent score, and the sample is small. The page also lists Caroline Siede’s A− grade for her A.V. Club review. These ratings use different scales and should not be treated as equivalent measurements. Rotten Tomatoes’ episode page is the source for the score, review count, and listed grade.
