The points did not earn contestants money or a prize, and Esten’s lead comes from one wildly oversized award.
Who won the points tally?
Chip Esten is the reported leader, according to a tally collected by YouTube user 12Medbe Network and reported by BGR in 2017. The compilation covers points Drew Carey awarded in episodes spanning 1998 to 2006, the first eight U.S. seasons.
This is not an official scorebook or a meaningful contest result. The show’s familiar introduction says it is “the show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.” Carey awarded points as part of the comedy, not as a route to a prize or money.
How did Esten get so far ahead?
BGR attributes Esten’s enormous total to a season-eight award of 1,000 points to the tenth power. That single absurdly large award dwarfs the totals shown for the other performers. The tally therefore records the show’s running gag more than it measures who performed best.

What does the reported ranking look like?
The following figures are the top-ten tally reproduced by BGR, with Carey listed separately. They are compiled totals, not official standings.
| Rank | Performer | Reported points |

| 1 | Chip Esten | 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,041,000 |
| 2 | Ryan Stiles | 1,003,013,946,294.5 |
| 3 | Colin Mochrie | 1,003,012,440,918.5 |
| 4 | Kathy Griffin | 1,000,000,060,810 |
| 5 | Wayne Brady | 3,009,326,744 |
| 6 | Greg Proops | 1,001,108,542 |
| 7 | Brad Sherwood | 2,061,508.5 |
| 8 | Denny Siegel | 1,058,050 |
| 9 | Karen Maruyama | 1,005,450 |
| 10 | Stephen Colbert | 21,000 |
BGR also reports that Carey awarded himself 12,000 points, many of them self-awarded. The figures come from the fan compilation as reproduced in BGR; they should not be read as independently verified episode-by-episode totals.

Why the totals are so uneven
Carey commonly gave everyone 1,000 points, according to BGR, but he also handed out half-points, 10,000 points, and occasionally more than a million. With no rules or stakes behind the scoring, the numbers could be stretched for the joke—and the tenth-power award to Esten made the final tally spectacularly lopsided.
