The incident was one of several episodes of inappropriate behavior reported around the live video installation; it was not established that Louise alone caused its temporary shutdown.
Who flashed the New York–Dublin portal?
In a May 16, 2024 report, Gizmodo’s Lucas Ropek said Ava Louise flashed the portal and later bragged about the incident on Instagram. The portal was a live video art installation linking New York City with Dublin, Ireland. Gizmodo’s report identifies Louise as one participant in the behavior that prompted officials to take the installation offline temporarily.
Why did the portal go offline?
Gizmodo described multiple incidents in which people used the public-facing video connection to display inappropriate material. The report placed Louise’s flashing incident within that broader pattern, rather than establishing that her actions alone led to the shutdown. Its wording does not support taking “ruined” literally as a finding that one person permanently destroyed the project.
At the time of its May 2024 article, Gizmodo said the portal appeared to be down and that it had contacted the Flatiron Nomad Business Improvement District without receiving an immediate response. That is a status report from that date, not confirmation of the installation’s present availability.

What was the toilet-licking video?
Gizmodo reported that Louise posted a TikTok in 2020 showing herself licking a toilet seat and called the stunt the “Coronavirus Challenge.” The article also said Louise later claimed the toilet was on a private jet. That detail is her reported explanation; the article did not independently verify it.
