Legend is the strongest-supported commercial leader among Bob Marley & The Wailers’ albums: Bob Marley’s official site reports approximately 25 million copies sold worldwide, and Guinness World Records calls it reggae’s best-selling album. But “highest-grossing” implies revenue figures that the available sources do not provide. The clearest evidence-based ranking is therefore short: Legend leads on reported sales and certification evidence, while Exodus ranks first in one separate equivalent-sales estimate.
How to read this ranking
The sources do not establish a comparable worldwide revenue total for each Marley album. Instead, they offer different measures: reported copies sold, certification awards, chart history, and equivalent album sales. These figures describe different things and cannot be combined into a single precise revenue leaderboard.

The order below reflects the strongest available commercial evidence, not a claim that every album’s lifetime worldwide sales have been measured on the same basis. Chart positions and weeks on a chart are included only as context, not as sales figures.
1. Legend (1984)
Legend, a greatest-hits compilation by Bob Marley & The Wailers, has the clearest claim to the top spot. Bob Marley’s official release page calls it “the best-selling reggae album of all-time” and reports over 14 million copies sold in the United States and approximately 25 million worldwide. Those are the page’s reported sales figures; it does not state a publication date for them.

Guinness World Records also names Legend the best-selling reggae album. Guinness reports certified U.K. sales of 1.8 million and says U.S. sales exceed 10 million. The U.S. wording is not identified there as a certification total, so it should not be treated as one.
In the United States, the RIAA says Legend reached 15× multi-Platinum and became Bob Marley & The Wailers’ highest-certified album. The RIAA announcement also reports 11 certified albums and more than 21.5 million Album Awards for the band as a whole; that aggregate does not rank individual records by sales.
Rank #2
- New Store Stock
There is a useful distinction between sales totals and chart endurance. The Official Charts Company lists Legend with a U.K. album-chart peak of No. 4 and 566 weeks on the chart. Those weeks show longevity, not a count of copies sold.
2. Exodus (1977): a major contender on a different measure
Exodus is the leading alternative to Legend in the available comparison, but the evidence does not support calling it a settled second-place worldwide sales result. ChartMasters ranks Exodus first among Marley releases in its own system, estimating 37.0 million equivalent album sales. That is ChartMasters’ estimate, accessed in 2026—not a publisher-reported physical-copy total and not directly comparable with the official site’s reported copies for Legend.
Rank #3
- Bob Marley & The Wailers' LEGEND stands as one of the best-selling albums in history, touching millions with a beautiful flow of Bob's most memorable songs, from "One Love/People Get Ready" and "Get Up, Stand Up" to "Could You Be Loved" and "Redemption Song
The Official Charts Company provides U.K. chart context for Marley albums, but chart performance does not resolve lifetime global sales. The evidence therefore supports presenting Exodus as a prominent contender whose apparent lead depends on a particular equivalent-sales model.
Why the ranking stops here
The available sources do not provide comparable worldwide revenue or sales totals for the rest of Marley’s albums. The official discography documents his catalog but does not include an album-by-album sales table. Ranking a longer list would require mixing unlike measures or assigning positions without adequate comparative evidence.
Rank #4
- MARLEY BOB & THE WAILERS LEGEND
One additional figure sometimes associated with Legend needs a time qualification: Bob Marley’s official history page says Nielsen SoundScan reported sales of over 250,000 copies annually since the album’s 1984 release. The same page says it was one of 17 albums to exceed 10 million copies since SoundScan began tabulating in 1991. These are statements on a page without a stated publication year, not a claim that the annual rate is current.
