Matty Healy previewed a short snippet of an unnamed, unreleased song at The 1975’s Birmingham concert on February 22, 2024. He told the crowd the band was working on a new record; the show’s context was a planned pause in live performances after the tour, not a breakup.
What new song did Matty Healy preview?
The 1975 frontman did not identify the snippet by title. Rolling Stone UK reported that Healy played a short preview from his phone during the Birmingham show and told the audience, “We’re working on a new record now.” The report does not provide a release date for the song.
Healy also described the band’s next step: “We’re gonna go away and make – hopefully – a good new album. I just don’t know what to do in the meantime, really…” The remarks and phone playback were an early preview, not confirmation that the track would appear on a released album.
When and where did the preview happen?
The preview took place at The 1975’s concert in Birmingham, England, on February 22, 2024. Rolling Stone UK described it as the final UK date of the Still…At Their Very Best tour, ahead of the group’s European performances. Healy’s comments indicated that the band was returning to studio work.

Did The 1975 announce a breakup or a hiatus?
The hiatus referred to live shows after the tour, not the end of the band. Healy had said in September 2023 that The 1975 would take an indefinite hiatus from shows. The FADER subsequently reported his clarification: “That’s not happening. Don’t worry,” referring to a breakup. Pitchfork’s account of the original statement likewise described a pause in live performance.
What is known about the album now?
In later coverage surfaced by October 8, 2026, NME reported that Healy described the band’s new album as “almost done.” That update is separate from the Birmingham preview in 2024. It does not establish a release date or confirm that the album has been released.
