Thatgamecompany’s animated feature based on Sky: Children of the Light is titled Sky: The Two Embers – Part 1. The studio unveiled its trailer on June 2, 2025, describing the film as a wordless origin story for the game’s world.
What the trailer announces
In its June 2, 2025 announcement, thatgamecompany called Sky: The Two Embers – Part 1 the first part of a wordless animated feature revealing the origin story of Sky, “a once-thriving kingdom of stars nestled in the clouds.” The announcement links to the trailer.
The project is framed as an origin story rather than a documentary or a conventional game adaptation. The studio’s description establishes the feature’s wordless format and broad premise, but does not provide a plot synopsis or a named individual speaker.
Was there a theatrical release?
A Japanese studio press release dated May 20, 2025 announced an August 8, 2025 theatrical opening in Japan and described the release as Japan-exclusive. That announcement establishes the planned Japanese release, not a global opening date or where the film can be watched now. The official sources cited here do not establish current theatrical, streaming, or in-game availability as of October 8, 2026.

How the film relates to the game
Sky: Children of the Light is the game whose world the feature explores. In a May 15, 2026 anniversary announcement, thatgamecompany reported that the game had passed 300 million downloads. That is the studio’s reported milestone, not an independently audited count.
The official Sky game site describes it as a peaceful open-world MMO and lists platform availability. Playing the game offers context for its setting, but it does not establish whether the animated feature is currently available in the game.
What viewers and creators can share
The official Sky help center’s sharing guidance welcomes sharing the trailer and teaser, with or without commentary. It treats other animation footage separately: continuous footage outside trailer material should be limited to 30 seconds per clip, used transformatively, and not compiled to recreate part or all of the film. It also says not to upload or redistribute complete chapters or large unedited segments. Check the current guidance before publishing clips, since platform and rights policies can change.
