What the production figures do—and do not—show
Netflix calls Season 5 the show’s fifth and final season. In its own account of the series’ US footprint, Netflix says the five seasons generated more than 8,000 production-related jobs and contributed more than $1.4 billion to US GDP. Those are Netflix-reported economic-impact figures across five seasons, not measures of Season 5’s production budget. Netflix’s franchise figures also report 59.6 million views for Season 5, Volume 1’s premiere week and a number-one ranking in 90 countries; those viewership figures do not verify production costs.
Netflix separately says Season 5 production used 43% less diesel-generator fuel than its stated baseline. That is Netflix’s account of production practices, not an independently audited budget or cost breakdown. Netflix’s production account provides that figure.
