Steven Spielberg’s alien-contact film is called Disclosure Day. It opened in theaters on June 12, 2026; digital availability began July 21, and Universal lists 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions with an August 25 street date. The trailer and other official videos are available through Amblin’s film page.
What is Steven Spielberg’s new alien movie called?
The film is Disclosure Day, an original science-fiction story directed by Steven Spielberg. David Koepp wrote the screenplay from a story by Spielberg. It is a fictional alien-contact thriller, not a documentary or a report establishing that extraterrestrial life exists.
Spielberg told the Associated Press, “It’s my first film that will be considered science fiction that I do not consider to be science fiction.” He also said, “I’ve been a believer since I made ‘Close Encounters’ 50 years ago,” and described himself as willing to change his mind “because of the circumstantial evidence which is overwhelming.” Those comments describe his personal outlook; they are not evidence that aliens have been confirmed.
What is Disclosure Day about?
Universal’s trailer poses the question: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” The promotional copy frames the story around the possibility of publicly revealing evidence of extraterrestrial life.

The Associated Press describes Josh O’Connor’s character as a cybersecurity whistleblower who has suppressed government evidence chronicling alien encounters. Colman Domingo plays a leader in the disclosure movement, Colin Firth a corporate executive trying to keep the material suppressed, and Emily Blunt plays meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, who experiences a mysterious epiphany. These are AP-reported story details, not a complete official synopsis.
The trailer copy differs by release: NBCUniversal’s page says “the truth belongs to eight billion people,” while Universal’s home-entertainment fact sheet says “seven billion people.” They are versions of promotional language, not a verified population statistic.

When did Disclosure Day come out?
The theatrical release date was June 12, 2026, so the film is no longer an upcoming summer release. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment lists digital availability beginning July 21, 2026, and a street date of August 25, 2026 for 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD. Availability through a particular digital service or retailer can vary.
Where can I watch the Disclosure Day trailer?
Amblin’s official film page includes the teaser trailer, a “First Look with Steven Spielberg,” a featurette titled “A Fascinating Look with Steven Spielberg,” and a Super Bowl spot. NBCUniversal’s page hosts an item labeled “Official Trailer” and a “Big Game Spot.” These pages establish that the videos are available; “groundbreaking” is promotional framing, not an independently demonstrated measure of the trailer.

NBCUniversal says the earlier Spielberg-Koepp films Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull earned more than $3 billion worldwide combined. That studio-attributed figure concerns those films, not Disclosure Day.
