Why there is no reliable list of eight most expensive cars
Collection roundups disagree about both the number and mix of vehicles associated with will.i.am. One roundup published in 2024 counted nine, while other accounts name different cars. The sources do not establish which vehicles he owns now, independently appraise them, or compare them on a common basis.
That matters because a custom build cost, a celebrity’s reported estimate of a car’s worth, a production model’s original price, and a present-day resale value are different things. The available sources provide two notable historical dollar figures, but neither is a verified current market valuation. A ranked table of eight cars would suggest more certainty and comparability than the evidence supports.
The custom 1958 Volkswagen Beetle: a reported $900,000 build
Jalopnik reported in February 2013 that will.i.am’s extensively modified 1958 Volkswagen Beetle was said to have cost $900,000. The build reportedly began in 2009 and was not finished at the time of the article. The figure is therefore best described as a historical reported build cost, not what the car would sell for today or a confirmed amount paid.

The Beetle is a distinctive example of will.i.am’s interest in making cars his own. In a 2013 Guardian Q&A, he said: “I spend money on things to make – such as the car I made.” Read the Guardian Q&A.
The custom DeLorean DMC-12: a reported $700,000 value claim
In the same year, Jalopnik reported that will.i.am had described his custom DeLorean DMC-12 as worth $700,000. The article corrected the claim that it had been built from scratch: the car was a DeLorean. The $700,000 figure is a historical value claim attributed to him, not evidence of a completed sale or an independent appraisal, and it should not be treated as a current market value.

The Flip: a documented one-off Mercedes-AMG project
Mercedes-Benz announced The Flip in 2022 as a collaboration with will.i.am. It is based on an extensively modified Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and was developed with a STEAM-education mission. Mercedes-Benz documents the project, but its announcement does not provide a reliable price or valuation for the one-off. It is therefore not possible to place The Flip above or below the Beetle or DeLorean by value.

A Mercedes-Benz profile reported a GT C and a G 63 among will.i.am’s cars at the time it was published. This is evidence that the vehicles were associated with his collection then, not confirmation that he still owns them. The profile does not supply a comparable valuation for either car.
