Spoilers: This ranking considers completed manga material, including character developments and story events not yet covered by the anime. It is an editorial list—not an official ranking or a measure of who would win in a fight.
“Best” can mean best written, most memorable, most influential, or strongest. Here, the order weighs characterization, narrative impact, distinctiveness, and memorable execution; combat strength is secondary. The official Jujutsu Kaisen character pages identify characters and provide selected profile information, but do not rank them. The placements below are an interpretation of the story, not a canonical order.
How this ranking weighs the characters
Each placement reflects four editorial criteria: how clearly the story conveys a character’s motivations and changes; how much she shapes relationships or events; how distinctive her perspective and role are; and how memorable the story’s execution of her key scenes is. Combat ability can contribute to a character’s presence, but it does not decide the order. A compelling character is not automatically the strongest fighter.
The official roster is useful for confirming names and selected anime profile details, not for settling every character’s full arc. The analysis below draws on the manga’s completed story, so anime-only viewers may encounter spoilers for unadapted developments.
#1 Best Overall
The 15 best female Jujutsu Kaisen characters
15. Momo Nishimiya
Momo offers a perspective the story needs: a young sorcerer who can see how tradition and gender expectations shape the lives of women in the jujutsu world. Her role is smaller than those of the characters above her, but her directness gives the series another angle on the culture its students inherit.
14. Riko Amanai
Riko’s story is brief, but her choices put a human face on a system willing to treat a person as a means to an end. Her humor, stubbornness, and desire to live on her own terms make the consequences of that system more than an abstract plot point.
13. Akari Nitta
Akari is not built around a major personal arc, and that restraint is part of her value. She is a capable adult working within a dangerous institution, helping connect the students’ world to the practical demands of missions and supervision.

12. Tsumiki Fushiguro
Tsumiki’s importance comes largely through Megumi’s devotion to her and the choices that devotion helps motivate. Although she has limited time as an active presence, her place in the story gives emotional weight to Megumi’s ideas about who deserves to be saved.

Manami is a supporting figure whose loyalties and decisions help clarify the divisions within the curse-user world. She has less room for development than the central cast, but her presence contributes to the series’ sense that conflicts involve networks of people, not just headline fighters.
10. Mimiko Hasaba
Mimiko’s story is inseparable from her bond with her sister, Nanako. Together, the twins show how Geto’s followers can be shaped by gratitude, grief, and loyalty as well as ideology. Mimiko’s place here recognizes that emotional thread while accounting for her limited independent development.
Rank #3
9. Nanako Hasaba
Nanako shares the twins’ history but has a distinct, more openly confrontational presence. Her commitment to Geto and her sister gives her actions a personal logic, even when the story does not pause long enough to explore her at the depth it gives its central characters.
8. Utahime Iori
Utahime brings a grounded, often exasperated counterpoint to the confidence and chaos around her. As a teacher, she makes the school’s adult world feel more lived-in; her interactions also help distinguish professional responsibility from the students’ impulsiveness.
7. Kasumi Miwa
Miwa’s appeal lies in the gap between her ordinary anxieties and the extraordinary danger of her profession. She is earnest, self-aware, and easy to root for without being framed as a hidden powerhouse. That human scale makes her one of the series’ most relatable supporting characters.
Rank #4

6. Hana Kurusu
Hana’s central conflict combines personal feeling with a consequential role in the story’s larger struggle. Her bond with Megumi informs her choices, while her relationship with Angel complicates what it means to share a body and pursue a goal together. Her placement reflects that mix of emotional stakes and plot importance.
5. Mei Mei
Mei Mei is memorable because her priorities are unusually explicit. She approaches sorcery as work and values financial reward, a perspective that separates her from characters driven by duty, idealism, or personal loyalty. The result is a sharp, unsettling presence whose self-interest is part of the characterization, not a reason to mistake her for a moral guide.
4. Mai Zen’in
Mai’s bitterness and sharpness are tied to a life shaped by family expectations and the choices available to her. Her relationship with Maki gives the Zen’in family conflict its most intimate form: the sisters’ opposing responses to their upbringing are painful precisely because their bond remains significant. Mai’s story is compact, but its emotional consequences reach far beyond her screen time.

3. Yuki Tsukumo
Yuki stands out for the scale of her ambition and the questions she brings to the sorcerer world. The official character page identifies her as a special-grade sorcerer and describes her goal of creating a world where cursed spirits are not born. Those profile facts establish her place and broad aim; her deeper significance comes from how the story connects that aim to competing ideas about how such a world might be achieved.
2. Maki Zen’in
Maki’s arc is one of the series’ clearest studies of a person pushing against a system built to diminish her. Her struggle with the Zen’in clan gives her development both personal and structural stakes: she is confronting the family that defines her place while exposing the limits of the hierarchy around it. Her combat ability is impressive, but her transformation and the consequences of her choices are what put her near the top of this list.
1. Nobara Kugisaki
Nobara is the strongest overall choice because her confidence, flaws, and self-definition are established with unusual clarity. She refuses the idea that she must choose between being a sorcerer and being herself, and her friendship with Yuji and Megumi works because she remains a distinct personality rather than simply filling a team role. Her memorable moments matter, but so does the consistent point of view that makes those moments feel unmistakably hers.

Jujutsu Kaisen gives combat a major role, but strength and character quality answer different questions. A fight-based list would need a separate, carefully defined scope: manga or anime coverage, the point in each character’s story being compared, and what counts as a win. This ranking instead gives priority to the way each character is written and the effect she has on the story.
