The 10 Most-Streamed TV Shows in the U.S. Right Now—and What the Rankings Measure

There is no single live, worldwide chart of every show watched on every streaming service and device. The latest dated Nielsen snapshot in the cited material covers U.S. television viewing for September 14–20, 2026: Neagley led its overall chart with 1.776 billion minutes viewed. For a broader picture, Nielsen-based first-half totals show Stranger Things at No. 1 from December 29, 2025, through June 28, 2026. Those are different rankings over different periods, so they should not be merged into one top ten.

What are the most-streamed shows right now?

Nielsen’s latest chart snapshot cited here ranks U.S. streaming programs by total minutes viewed on television among people ages 2 and older. For the week of September 14–20, 2026, the first three shows on its overall chart were:

Rank Show Minutes viewed
1 Neagley 1,776 million
2 Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story 1,481 million
3 Reacher 1,420 million

These are weekly U.S. television-viewing figures, not global totals or a count of individual viewers. Nielsen’s chart is updated over time; its page displayed the September 14–20 week when consulted on October 8, 2026. Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10

What were the most-watched shows in the first half of 2026?

A first-half ranking gives a different view from a single week. TVLine’s report of Nielsen data for December 29, 2025–June 28, 2026, listed these five overall leaders:

Rank Show Minutes viewed
1 Stranger Things 23.261 billion
2 Bluey 22.809 billion
3 The Pitt 21.118 billion
4 Grey’s Anatomy 20.414 billion
5 The Big Bang Theory 20.404 billion

Those figures are cumulative minutes for the stated six-month period; they are not weekly rankings or an indication of how many distinct people watched each show. The TVLine account also reports separate leaderboards for streaming originals and acquired series. TVLine’s first-half 2026 ranking

Which originals and library shows led?

Keeping originals and acquired series in separate categories helps explain why a recently released show and a long-running library favorite can both rank highly. In the first half of 2026, Nielsen’s original-series leaders were:

  1. Stranger Things — 23.261 billion minutes
  2. The Pitt — 21.118 billion minutes
  3. Bridgerton — 17.148 billion minutes

Landman ranked fourth among originals, with 12.400 billion minutes. For acquired series, Bluey led with 22.809 billion minutes, followed by Grey’s Anatomy at 20.414 billion and The Big Bang Theory at 20.404 billion. SpongeBob SquarePants and Family Guy completed that category’s top five, though the cited account does not give their totals.

Library titles can accumulate large totals because episodes remain available to watch; a high minutes figure does not by itself mean a show is a new release or that it has the most unique viewers. Gracenote’s 2026 report, citing Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, says the top ten licensed shows generated 81% more viewing minutes than the top ten original streaming shows in 2025. Why do weekly, half-year, and platform rankings differ?

They answer different questions. Nielsen’s weekly chart is a cross-service measure for a defined U.S. week, while the first-half list adds viewing across a much longer period. A platform’s own top ten is narrower still: it describes the ordering within that service, not total viewing across competitors.

For example, a Tom’s Guide report dated September 30, 2026, placed Neagley first in a U.S. Prime Video top-ten snapshot. That is a useful indication of a service’s own chart at that time, but it cannot be compared directly with Nielsen’s cross-service minutes viewed. Tom’s Guide’s Prime Video chart coverage

What Nielsen’s streaming chart does—and does not—measure

Nielsen describes the chart as “Ranked by total minutes viewed by persons 2+.” The September 14–20, 2026 chart identifies Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings and the Nielsen National TV Panel as its sources, and specifies U.S. viewing through television. It is a minutes-based measure, not a poll of preferences, a quality rating, or a count of unique viewers.

Its scope also has a qualification: Nielsen says featured platforms appear only when they provide program-level data in specific Nielsen reporting systems, while viewing data are inclusive of streaming viewership beyond the listed providers. In practical terms, the chart is not a complete inventory of every service, and the cited figures do not establish viewing on phones, tablets, or computers or worldwide consumption. Read its result as a defined U.S. TV-viewing comparison, not a universal streaming leaderboard.

How to read a “most-streamed” list

  • Check the date window. A weekly No. 1 and a six-month leader measure different patterns of viewing.
  • Check the geography and device scope. The cited Nielsen figures cover U.S. viewing through television.
  • Check the metric. Minutes viewed can be high because viewers watched many episodes or watched for longer; it is not the same as unique audience size.
  • Check the category. Originals and acquired titles have separate rankings, and both can attract substantial viewing.
  • Keep service charts separate. A service-specific top ten is not a cross-platform ranking.
