There is no single worldwide leaderboard for the biggest streaming series. The fairest cross-service comparison available here is Nielsen’s U.S. ranking of minutes watched on television during 2025. Nielsen’s figures show that Bluey, Grey’s Anatomy and Stranger Things led the year—but the available published text does not establish every position in a complete top ten.
What “biggest” means in this comparison
This article uses Nielsen’s 2025 annual streaming rankings, which measure minutes viewed on television in the United States from December 30, 2024, through December 28, 2025. That makes the figures comparable across services, but they are not a count of worldwide viewers or viewing on every device. Nielsen’s service labels reflect providers with program-level data in its systems, and Nielsen says its totals include streaming on platforms beyond those listed.
Minutes viewed favor series with large libraries: a long-running show can accumulate enormous totals across many episodes. That is different from measuring the most-watched new series, the most popular show per viewer, or the program with the most global fans. Nielsen’s separate “most-binged” category addresses episode consumption per viewer for extensive libraries; it is not the same as the overall minutes ranking.
The leading series Nielsen identified for 2025
The available Nielsen text confirms these overall figures and distinctions. It does not provide the full ordered top-ten list in accessible text, so unverified placements are not filled in here.

All minutes and distinctions in the table are Nielsen’s 2025 figures for U.S. television viewing during the stated annual measurement period. Nielsen notes that the period ended before viewers watched the Stranger Things series finale, so its total does not include finale viewing after December 28.
Why Netflix and Apple figures do not fit the same ranking
Netflix’s global report
Netflix’s first-half 2026 viewing report covers global member viewing across the service and reports more than 97 billion hours watched across titles during that half. Netflix says His & Hers led its shows with 104 million views; the Bridgerton franchise earned 180 million views across seasons. These are Netflix-reported global views for a half-year period, not Nielsen’s U.S. television minutes for calendar-year 2025. Netflix has also said that starting in Q1 2027 it will move from six-month to yearly viewing snapshots.

Apple TV’s service-level statement
Apple’s January 2026 statement says total hours viewed on Apple TV rose 36% in December 2025 compared with December 2024, and calls Pluribus its most-viewed series to date. Apple did not provide a comparable annual, series-level minutes total in that statement. It supports describing Pluribus as Apple’s own most-viewed series to date, not assigning it a position alongside Nielsen’s annual cross-service figures.
A weekly chart answers a different question
Nielsen’s weekly chart is useful for seeing what is popular in a particular moment, but a week is not a yearly or all-time ranking. For September 14–20, 2026, Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 placed Neagley first overall with 1.776 billion minutes, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story second with 1.481 billion, and Reacher third with 1.420 billion. The chart also listed The Big Bang Theory on HBO Max and Ted Lasso on Apple TV.

What the figures say—and what they do not
Nielsen reported 16.7 trillion minutes streamed in 2025, a 19% increase over 2024. Those are estimates of total streaming consumption, not audience figures for any individual series. The annual ranking is useful for comparing measured U.S. television viewing across services on a common basis; it cannot establish a definitive worldwide popularity order or replace service-specific global reports.
Nielsen’s Brian Fuhrer, SVP Product Strategy, said in the company’s January 28, 2026 announcement: “It’s especially interesting to track the evolution of streaming and the titles that drive it year-over-year, and the strategies and successes that our clients have along with it.”
