As of October 8, 2026, East of Eden is No. 1 on JustWatch’s U.S. cross-service TV chart, followed by Lanterns and Ted Lasso. The list below uses that chart for current popularity, then adds viewing-fit notes: a high rank signals activity, not a guarantee that a show is right for you or objectively “best.”
How this week’s ranking works
The order is the U.S. JustWatch TV chart last updated at 09:11 on October 8, 2026. JustWatch says its charts draw on user activity in a selected 24-hour, seven-day, or 30-day window, including clicks on streaming offers, watchlist additions, and marking a title as seen. The page describes a base of more than 50 million movie and TV fans per month and daily chart updates across 140 countries and 4,500 services. This is a comparative interest signal, not a census of all viewers or viewing minutes, and not a quality score. See the JustWatch U.S. TV chart.
Other rankings answer different questions. Nielsen’s streaming Top 10 is based on U.S. National TV Panel viewing through television and covers listed providers in its reporting systems; it should not be treated as interchangeable with JustWatch’s activity-based chart. Nielsen’s streaming Top 10.
The 10 biggest shows on streaming this week
-
East of Eden — Netflix
JustWatch’s No. 1 is a seven-part period drama adapting John Steinbeck’s novel. It follows Cathy Ames and the Trask family across generations in early-twentieth-century California. For viewers who want a literary family saga rather than a quick episodic watch, it is the clearest place to start. It also topped Tom’s Guide’s Netflix U.S. top ten on October 6. -
Lanterns — HBO Max
No. 2 on the chart, with a sustained top-three run in the chart history shown. Its high placement makes it a strong current pick if you are looking for a series drawing cross-service attention; the ranking alone does not establish whether its tone or subject will suit you.
-
Ted Lasso — Apple TV
No. 3. It offers a markedly different choice from the chart’s period drama and other high-ranking titles: consider it when you want a lighter series rather than a darker or more dramatic watch.

-
Slow Horses — Apple TV
No. 5. This is the second Apple TV listing in the top five. Its position is a useful signal of current interest, not evidence of a particular audience size or a judgment of quality.

-
MobLand — Paramount+ and other listed channels
No. 7. JustWatch associates it with Paramount+ and other channels. The chart does not specify one universal access route, so check the offer shown for your location.

What else the rankings tell us
Netflix’s numbers add a different kind of evidence
Tom’s Guide’s October 6 U.S. Netflix snapshot also lists A Different World, The Great British Baking Show, Wonka’s the Golden Ticket, Murder in a Small Town, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, The Way Home, LEGO One Piece, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Doc. Its recommended picks are East of Eden, Murder in a Small Town, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. That is a service-specific snapshot, not a second cross-platform ranking.
For the week of September 28–October 4, Netflix’s global English-language TV chart reported 6.5 million views for East of Eden, 5.7 million for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and 5.1 million for A Different World. These figures describe that Netflix chart and period—not U.S. viewing across all services. Netflix changed its methodology after June 12, 2023, so ranks on either side of that date should not be compared without accounting for the change. Netflix weekly chart figures for September 28–October 4.
New releases are not the same as popular shows
A release guide can help you spot what has just arrived, but a new title is not necessarily one of the most-watched or most-discussed. Tom’s Guide’s October 5 roundup covers releases from October 5–11, including a new NCIS spinoff and new series or adaptations across several services. Use it to find fresh options, not to interpret this popularity ranking. Tom’s Guide’s October 5–11 release guide.

How to choose what to watch
- For the chart leader: Start with East of Eden; it leads both this October 8 cross-service snapshot and the October 6 Netflix U.S. snapshot.
- For a different mood: Use the list to choose a service and title, then check the show’s description and episode details before committing. The chart does not establish episode counts or guarantee that a show fits your taste.
- For availability: The services named here are the U.S. chart’s associations. Catalog rights and access routes can differ by country and change, so verify the current listing where you watch.
- For measured viewing rather than interest: Look for a chart that states its viewing method and reporting window. JustWatch activity, Nielsen’s U.S. television-panel measurement, and Netflix’s service-specific weekly figures are not directly interchangeable.
