Spoilers for Terrifier 3. The kill most likely meant by the headline is the chainsaw massacre in the shower. Writer-director Damien Leone said the scene is his homage to Psycho and that he had been carrying the idea for a while. That supports “he thought of it before,” not the claim that he had filmed this same kill in an earlier movie.
Why the shower chainsaw scene is a Psycho homage
In an interview with The AU Review, Leone described the Terrifier 3 chainsaw sequence as his homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. He said he had wanted to create a Psycho-homage scene and imagined how the famous kill might be presented in a contemporary horror film. His concise explanation was: “That is my homage to Psycho.”

Leone also said he had “two kill scenes in particular” in his back pocket for a while. That makes the idea a long-held one; the interview does not say he filmed this specific scene before Terrifier 3.
What “did it before” does—and doesn’t—mean
The distinction is between conceiving an idea and staging it in an earlier film. Leone’s account supports the first: the concept had been on his mind before he put it into Terrifier 3. The available interviews do not establish that the shower massacre, or a shot-for-shot version of it, appeared in one of his earlier movies.

That qualification matters because an influence is not a repeat performance. Leone identified Psycho as the reference for this particular sequence, but the evidence does not provide a formal comparison with an earlier Leone scene.
Earlier Terrifier kills had different influences
There is a separate connection to Leone’s earlier work, but it concerns the influences behind the original Terrifier, not a prior version of the Terrifier 3 shower kill. In a Dread Central interview, Leone discussed the original film’s hacksaw sequence and mentioned Day of the Dead. He also identified a different source for the earlier film’s kills: “So I would say the first kill in Suspiria with the heart, was the inspiration for the kills in Terrifier.”

Those remarks describe a lineage of horror influences. They do not show that the shower chainsaw scene was previously filmed.
The shower applause wasn’t Leone’s most surprising audience reaction
Leone recalled that a couple of screenings applauded after the Terrifier 3 shower massacre, according to an October 11, 2024 Novastream interview. He separately described the original Terrifier scene in which Art shoots Tara in the legs as the most surprising audience reaction he had experienced. The applause anecdote and the “most surprising” reaction refer to different moments in different films.
