Horrorsmith Publishing’s October 3 announcement says the one-day event will feature free and $0.99 ebooks across horror, thriller and related dark fiction. The announced price categories do not confirm that every title will be on Kindle or that every deal will be available on Amazon.
What is Terrify Your Tablet Day?
Terrify Your Tablet is a Horrorsmith Publishing event for readers of horror and other dark fiction. Its past editions have featured ebooks offered free or at $0.99. The organizer describes the 2026 event as a one-day celebration, scheduled for October 17. Horrorsmith Publishing’s 2026 announcement says the full lineup will be shared once it is finalized.
Is there a 2026 list of 40 Kindle horror books?
Not yet, according to the October 3, 2026 announcement. The headline “40 Kindle horror books you can get for free (or 99 cents)” belongs to a 2024 roundup, whose prices and selection are historical—not current offers or a preview of the 2026 lineup. That article included Along About Midnight by Dorian J. Sinnott, as well as 21 Dares, And Then There Was Silence, Black Death and The Salem Legacy. Their appearance in the old roundup does not establish their 2026 participation, price or availability.
Where to find the books and confirm the price
The 2024 event roundup listed ebooks on Kindle, Kobo, Google Play, Apple Books, Scribd and direct download. That is historical platform information, not a promise that those stores will participate in 2026. Check the event’s finalized listing and the specific retailer page for the book and region you plan to use.

- Open the finalized event listing when Horrorsmith publishes it and note the title’s stated platform and offer.
- Follow the link for your preferred store, then confirm the book’s displayed price and terms on that product page before placing the order.
- Check the amount again at checkout. Horrorsmith’s 2025 event page warned readers to verify price and terms because it could not correct an author’s pricing setup or cover an errant charge. Read the 2025 event page.
What to expect from the 2026 event
The organizer has announced the date and broad offer categories, not the book-by-book lineup. Until that list appears, it is not possible to say which titles will be free, which will cost $0.99, which will be on Kindle, or whether any specific 2024 selection will return. Horrorsmith’s 2025 page grouped books by free versus discounted offers, platform and subgenre; those details are useful only when confirmed for a current listing.
