The anime at the center of the July 2025 “highest-scoring sequel” headline was Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2. A July 9 report said all of its episodes had appeared on BitTorrent shortly after the first episode debuted, reportedly in 480p. The report did not identify who leaked them. The ranking claim also needs a date and a platform attached: it was framed as a MyAnimeList comparison, not a permanent or cross-platform title.
What was reported about the leak?
ComicBook.com reported on July 9, 2025, citing Anime News Network, that every episode of Season 2 was circulating on BitTorrent shortly after the premiere. The files were reportedly 480p. According to the report, they had no visible watermarks or timestamps that could identify their source, and the source was unknown at the time.

That account establishes what the outlets reported, not who obtained or distributed the files. It does not support attributing the leak to an individual, studio, distributor, or streaming service, and it does not establish the leak’s audience or impact.
Was it really Summer 2025’s highest-scoring sequel anime?
That phrase is best understood as a point-in-time MyAnimeList claim, not a current ranking. The available evidence does not establish a dated historical MyAnimeList comparison table that would independently confirm the exact July 2025 rank.
#1 Best Overall
A different snapshot cannot settle that question. AniGems’ Summer 2025 table, crawled in October 2026, places Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2 third overall among the titles it lists, with a global score of 8.48 and a MyAnimeList score of 8.50 from 99,360 ratings. The table aggregates multiple platforms; its order and scores are not interchangeable with a historical MyAnimeList-only comparison. Its listed leaders include Ruri Rocks and Dr. Stone: Science Future Part 2.
When did Season 2 premiere, and what is it about?
Crunchyroll announced a Japanese broadcast start of July 7, 2025, at 24:30 JST—July 8 at 00:30. That is the Japanese broadcast schedule, not a universal streaming release time. Crunchyroll’s Summer 2025 lineup described the story as Iori’s college life continuing amid his diving club’s antics, “endless seas, bright sunny days, and chaos.”
Rank #2
The series adapts the manga by Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka. Season 2 was produced by Zero-G and Liber. The first season premiered in July 2018 and ran for 12 episodes, according to Crunchyroll.
Where can viewers watch it legally?
Crunchyroll listed Season 2 in its Summer 2025 lineup and described availability across multiple regions. The July 2025 leak report also identified Crunchyroll as the legal streaming option at that time. Streaming catalogs can vary by country and change, so check Crunchyroll’s current listing for your region rather than assuming that 2025 availability still applies.

Where to read the original manga
Kodansha USA publishes the official English-language edition of the manga. Readers looking for the source material should check the publisher or a retailer for the specific volume, format, and current availability.
