Taylor Swift watched from an enclosed suite as Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins 26–7 in an NFL wild-card playoff game on January 13, 2024. The game was played in extraordinary cold, and Kansas City’s offense did enough on the ground and through the air to advance.
Swift watched from a suite in a historic cold
The Associated Press reported that Swift attended the game in Kansas City to support Kelce, then a Chiefs tight end, and watched from an enclosed suite. An AP photo caption described her arrival outfit as a Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce jacket; it did not identify a designer or model.
The cold became part of the story. AP reported a kickoff temperature of minus 4°F (minus 20°C), wind gusts above 25 mph (40 kph), and a wind chill of minus 27°F. The report described kickoff as setting an Arrowhead Stadium record for the coldest game there. Swift watched from indoors, not exposed to those outdoor conditions.
How Kansas City beat Miami, 26–7
The Chiefs built their lead with contributions from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, rookie receiver Rashee Rice, running back Isiah Pacheco, and kicker Harrison Butker. Mahomes threw for 262 yards. Rice caught eight passes for 130 yards and a touchdown, while Pacheco rushed for 89 yards and scored. Butker added four field goals.

Miami’s standout play came from Tyreek Hill, who caught a 53-yard touchdown on his return to Kansas City. The Dolphins finished with 264 total yards, according to AP, and could not keep pace with the Chiefs’ scoring.
What the players and coaches said afterward
Mahomes said the Chiefs had prepared for the weather: “Guys came with that attitude, that mentality — we knew it was going to be cold,” he told the Associated Press after the game.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged Kansas City’s execution: “We thought we had the right plan and obviously it wasn’t, and hats off to them for executing their plan in the most important time,” he said, according to AP.

A later AP-sourced account published by NFL.com traced Swift’s first Chiefs game attendance to a friendship-bracelet story. Kelce had discussed on his podcast trying to give Swift a bracelet bearing his phone number after her concert. He later invited her to a September 2023 game against the Chicago Bears, and she accepted.
