Tash Peterson was found guilty of disorderly conduct over an animal-rights protest inside a Louis Vuitton boutique in Perth on 21 August 2021. After the verdict, she removed her shirt outside court, displaying the words “Wear ur own skin!” across her chest, according to PerthNow. The reported $3,500 fine covered two disorderly-conduct findings, not just the Louis Vuitton protest.
What did Tash Peterson do at Louis Vuitton?
On 21 August 2021, Peterson entered the Louis Vuitton store at Raine Square in Perth wearing a flesh-coloured g-string. Her torso was covered in a red substance that she said on social media was menstrual blood. She shouted animal-rights slogans at customers and carried a sign reading “Rather be naked than wear someone else’s skin,” PerthNow reported.
Her boyfriend, Jack Higgs, and fellow animal advocate Arkadiusz Robert Swiebodzinski filmed the protest. The incident took place during a busy Saturday shopping period.
Why was Tash Peterson found guilty?
At trial, Peterson’s lawyer, Kathryn Heslop, argued that the protest was political communication. She said the nudity was not sexualized and was connected to the message.

PerthNow reported that Magistrate Michelle Harries accepted that Peterson was engaging in political communication but found that her conduct was disorderly in the circumstances and disturbed the store’s good order. The report cited the peak shopping period and the presence of children. The report said the magistrate found no evidence that Higgs or Swiebodzinski aided Peterson, or counselled or procured the offence.
How much was Tash Peterson fined?
On 8 April 2022, PerthNow reported that Peterson was fined a total of $3,500 after guilty findings on two disorderly-conduct counts. One concerned the August 2021 Louis Vuitton protest in Perth; the other concerned a separate protest outside Boatshed Markets in Cottesloe in December 2020. The reported total should not be treated as a fine solely for the Louis Vuitton incident.

What happened after the verdict?
Immediately after the verdict, Peterson removed her shirt outside court, revealing “Wear ur own skin!” written across her chest. PerthNow reported that she said the conviction would not deter her from similar protests.
“It doesn’t bother me at all, I’m here to speak up about the non-human animals who are suffering in the meat, dairy, leather, wool and fur industries, so I’m not going to stop,” she said, according to PerthNow.

Was the verdict connected to a later barring notice?
No. ABC News reported in July 2022 on a separate Western Australian licensed-venue barring notice involving Peterson. That report discussed the police explanation of the notice as a protective mechanism, the Liquor Commission’s position that alcohol consumption need not be involved if an incident occurred on licensed premises, and legal experts’ criticism.
