Tash Peterson was arrested at her home after a 23 December 2023 animal-rights protest at Tenderwest Meats in Belmont Forum, Western Australia. PerthNow reported that police arrested her on suspicion of criminal damage; in September 2024, the outlet reported that she pleaded guilty to criminal damage and disorderly behaviour in public and was fined for both offences.
What happened at Tenderwest Meats?
PerthNow’s 25 December 2023 report described a protest at the Tenderwest Meats butcher shop in Belmont Forum on 23 December. Peterson wore a shirt reading “END THIS HOLOCAUST” and carried a bottle containing a fake-blood mixture. The report attributed the slogan and the protest’s framing of animals killed for Christmas meals to Peterson.
According to the report’s description of video, Peterson poured the mixture at the shop. It also said employees tried to restrain her partner, Jack Higgs, in what a voice in the footage called a citizen’s arrest for vandalism, and that security later evicted Peterson. These are reported details from footage, not findings independently established in the article.
Why was Peterson arrested, and what charges were reported?
PerthNow said footage posted on social media on Christmas Eve showed police at Peterson’s home. In the footage, an officer said, “We’re placing you under arrest on suspicion of criminal damage.” That describes the basis for the arrest at the time; it is not the later court outcome.

The contemporaneous report attributed the account of two charges—criminal damage and disorderly conduct—to a social post by Peterson. At that stage, the article also said she stated that a court appearance was scheduled for 8 January 2024; it did not confirm that the hearing took place on that date.
What was the court outcome?
In a 9 September 2024 follow-up, PerthNow reported that Peterson pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour in public and criminal damage. It said she was fined $1,500 for disorderly behaviour in public and $500 for criminal damage.
