On 8 March 2024, Tahnee Sims marked what would have been Johnny Ruffo’s 36th birthday with a photo of the pair and a short message remembering his smile. Ruffo, the Perth-born singer and actor, had died aged 35 the previous November after brain cancer.
What Tahnee Sims posted for Johnny Ruffo’s birthday
PerthNow reported that Sims shared an Instagram photo of herself with Ruffo on 8 March 2024, his birthday. Her caption read: “Happy birthday, angel boy ✨️” and “Forever missing you & that cheeky grin ❤️”. The tribute was posted in 2024; it is not a new message.
The words focused on the everyday quality Sims remembered in him: his cheeky grin. She had also shared a posthumous video montage captioned “A forever love”, ABC News reported.
How old would Johnny Ruffo have been?
Ruffo would have turned 36 on 8 March 2024. He died aged 35 on 10 November 2023. The West Australian reported that he died peacefully with Sims and family at his side.

The couple’s relationship and Ruffo’s illness
Sims and Ruffo met at a dance studio in 2015 and were together for eight years, PerthNow reported. Ruffo was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017. He announced he was in remission in 2019, but the cancer returned in 2020, according to ABC News and The West Australian.
At Ruffo’s memorial, Sims said: “I know that not everyone gets to experience that kind of love, which is why I will be forever grateful,” and: “John liked to say I was his guardian angel. But I think soulmates is more accurate.” The West Australian reported her remarks.

Ruffo became known through The X Factor Australia and went on to appear in Home and Away and Dancing with the Stars, The West Australian reported. ABC News noted that his memoir, No Finish Line, documented his diagnosis and treatment.
