No evidence in the 2024 story suggests Larry Emdur and Sonia Kruger were falling out. The “survive this weekend” line was a joke about competing for the Gold Logie at the 64th TV Week Logie Awards on 18 August 2024. Both presenters praised one another publicly; the story does not establish the private state of their friendship today.
Why the 2024 headline asked whether their friendship would survive
PerthNow published Clare Rigden’s story on 17 August 2024, the day before the 64th TV Week Logie Awards. Emdur and Kruger were both Gold Logie nominees, and the article framed their head-to-head contest as playful rivalry between long-time friends—not as evidence of a dispute. What Emdur and Kruger said about each other
Emdur’s “survive this weekend” quip
PerthNow attributed Emdur’s remarks to an interview with The Sunday Times. He said: “Sonia is a prime-time rockstar, she is a long-time dear friend but I’m not sure our decades-old friendship will survive this weekend,” he joked. The praise surrounding the punchline makes clear that “survive” referred to the awards-night competition, not a reported break in the friendship.
Kruger’s praise for Emdur
PerthNow also reported Kruger’s warm response: “I don’t know anybody that doesn’t love Larry, because he is such a lovely guy and one of the most effortlessly funny people I know.” She said he deserved the Gold Logie and that she was glad he had finally received a nomination. These are the presenters’ reported public comments; they do not provide independent insight into their private relationship.

The 2024 contest is over
The headline’s “this weekend” referred to Sunday 18 August 2024, not an upcoming ceremony. The latest cited Logies event was the 66th awards, held at The Star in Sydney on Sunday 16 August 2026, with Robert Irwin hosting. ABC reported that Sam Pang won the Gold Logie and Robert Irwin won the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter; Emdur was among the nominees for that presenter award. ABC News’ 2026 winners list and ABC News’ 2026 nominations report cover the later ceremony and nominees.

The 2024 report documents a joking line from Emdur and public praise from both presenters in the context of a Gold Logie nomination contest. It does not establish whether anything has changed in their private friendship since those remarks. The headline is best read as awards-night teasing, rather than a claim that a friendship was actually in danger.
