The film is the clearest documented connection between them. It offers context for Jolie’s later recollection, but it does not establish when their feelings began or how their private relationship unfolded.
What did Jolie say about Shimizu?
In a 2005 CNN People in the News transcript, Jolie recalled: “I thought she was the greatest woman I met. I had so much fun with her, and found myself loving her and wanted to express that physically.” CNN identifies Shimizu as Jolie’s Foxfire co-star (CNN).

The recollection is Jolie’s own account of her feelings. It is not, by itself, a complete account of the relationship or its duration.
Did Jolie say she would have married Shimizu?
Vogue Japan later recounted Jolie as saying she probably would have married Jenny if she had not married her husband, and that she fell in love with Shimizu when she first saw her (Vogue Japan). This is a retrospective report, not a verified contemporary transcript, so it is best understood as a reported remark rather than an independently confirmed quotation.

What is known about their relationship?
The particulars are not well known. Harper’s Bazaar makes that point in its account, which also refers secondhand to an older Girlfriends interview (Harper’s Bazaar). The available accounts support saying that Jolie described strong feelings for Shimizu; they do not establish a precise timeline, the relationship’s status, or whether it was exclusive.
