TIFF’s 2024 programme featured Selena Gomez in Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez. Angelina Jolie was connected to the festival through a separate announcement: TIFF said she would receive its Tribute Award in Impact Media and named Pablo Larraín’s Maria among her upcoming film credits. Jolie is not in Emilia Pérez, and the award announcement is not a lineup entry.
What was in TIFF’s 2024 lineup?
The Toronto International Film Festival ran September 5–15, 2024, according to its 2024 programme book. Its programme listed Emilia Pérez as a French-language film directed by Jacques Audiard and identified its TIFF screening as the film’s Canadian premiere.

Emilia Pérez features Selena Gomez
TIFF lists Selena Gomez in the cast alongside Zoe Saldaña, Adriana Paz, and Karla Sofía Gascón. The festival describes the film as blending pop opera, narco thriller, and gender-affirmation drama; that description is TIFF’s framing, not a claim of critical consensus. Cannes’s 2024 Official Selection page also lists the film and its festival awards.
Why was Angelina Jolie in TIFF news?
In an announcement dated August 27, 2024, TIFF said Jolie would receive the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media at the Tribute Awards on September 8. The announcement also referred to Maria, directed by Pablo Larraín, as an upcoming film credit. It is a separate Jolie-related mention—not evidence that she appeared in Emilia Pérez or that Maria was listed as a TIFF 2024 lineup title in the cited material.

Which Maria does TIFF mean?
The title can refer to more than one film. TIFF’s Jolie announcement identifies the relevant film by its director, Pablo Larraín. Cannes’s 2024 Official Selection page separately lists Maria by Jessica Palud. Use the director’s name or the Jolie context to distinguish the two.
