Sylvester Stallone is confirmed as an executive producer, not as the actor playing Rambo; Noah Centineo is among the cast listed by producer AGBO. Some reports describe fan reactions as mixed, especially over a Rambo film without Stallone in the role, but the available discussion is anecdotal—not evidence of a broad or measured backlash.
What is the new Rambo movie?
John Rambo is described as an origin story and the next chapter in the franchise. It is not presented as a sequel led by Stallone. A March 9, 2026 report by ComicBook.com says the story covers events in Vietnam and what led Rambo to return home with trauma; that is secondary reporting, rather than a detailed official synopsis.

AGBO’s official project listing names Lionsgate and Millennium Media as partners. It credits Jalmari Helander as director and Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani as writers.
What is Stallone’s role—and who is in the cast?
Stallone’s confirmed role is executive producer. In the announcement video, as quoted by ComicBook.com, he said, “I will serve as executive producer on this origin story,” and added, “I couldn’t be more excited, and the action is coming your way.” That statement supports his involvement behind the camera; it does not establish that he will appear on screen as John Rambo.

AGBO lists Noah Centineo, Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong among the cast. Centineo is therefore a named cast member, but the listing does not identify him as Rambo or provide character assignments.
Why might some fans be unhappy?
The clearest point of potential friction is the gap between Stallone’s producing role and the prospect of a Rambo story without him playing the title character. MeriStation characterized the announcement as receiving a mixed response. A Reddit discussion from June 2026 includes individual expressions of skepticism as well as curiosity, but neither source is a poll or establishes how the franchise’s audience as a whole feels.

- Runtime: 155 minutes
There is also an understandable uncertainty about what an origin story will add to a long-running franchise. AGBO calls the film the next chapter, but its project page does not offer enough story detail to establish the film’s tone or how it will connect its younger Rambo to the familiar character. Any stronger claim about the film’s approach would be speculation.
What is confirmed—and what remains unknown?
- Confirmed: The film is titled John Rambo, is an origin story, and has Stallone as an executive producer.
- Confirmed: AGBO lists Centineo among the cast, Helander as director, and Haines and Noshirvani as writers.
- Not established on AGBO’s project page: A release date, geographic rollout, detailed official synopsis, or Stallone’s on-screen participation.
- Not established by the fan-reaction coverage: The scale of support or opposition among all fans.
How it fits the existing franchise
For context, Lionsgate’s official Rambo: Last Blood synopsis page confirms Stallone’s connection to that installment and offers a point of reference for the existing franchise. It does not establish current streaming availability or physical-media stock. The key distinction for the new film is that Stallone is confirmed as a producer, while the cast listing names Centineo and other actors without assigning them roles.
